I'm buffing the basic hecate model up. Here's what I got so far:

I found a lot of gemotry errors in the [V] model...had to corretct it all..Didn't think the gusy were this sloppy.
I still plan on adding lot's of detail (and far better turrets of course), but it shouldn't take me long. I'll prolly have it done and converted by the end of the week.
any suggestions?;7

I like the extra stuff in the middle section, but you've somehow made it even more boxy than before, particularly on the "conning tower" bits at the back. There need to be some smoother parts - this is a Vasudan-influenced design, after all.

Seems everyone has a HTL Hecate in the works these days.
Let's see if this one stays HTL and not a Mk II...

I don't understand why people keep saying this. :wtf:
Works in game doesn't it ? And they were working to deadlines & budgets.
Nice work by the way though. :)

I think the geometry errors might be artifacts of the conversions or something similar...
-
I don't know just how smooth I can get it, since this is the [V] model with more detail, not a brand new one...
All the UV mapping is kept, lucky for me :D
the onyl thing I can't decide what do do with it is the front!
And no, this won't be a MK2 version...even though I am tempted..LOL (but it WILL have 4 more small turrets, to make it compatible with the hecate I'm using in my campaign)
-
doh' I was wondering many months ago to make a htl hecate (one of my preferred), but I stopped when I saw grimlog already doing it. Now everybody is making his own hecate...mmmmm better return on the htl colossus I guess...

Presumably whatever you're using has a subdivide or slice operaiton, use that to cut the front (etc) faces and manually adjust them for a slight curvature.

Some of their UV mapping is god-awful, though. Like the Aeolus and Triton in particular; i have no idea how those ended up looking like they do, maybe the work experience boy did them.

Yep..some of their UV mapping sucks big time..
and yes, Aldo, I know about manually adding fedges and vertex and smoothing things that way...
I'll keep that in mind...for now I allready added lot's of stuff and mapped some of it will now proceed to round the conn towers a bit.
2415 polys (without turrets, a few parts are still ununioned) and counting....

Want a good laugh? Check the shivan miner, the rahu or something. They managed to have two lods in the same lod, iirc :p

Not in the Rahu as far as I can tell; that's one of the best done models in the game IMO.

The SD Demon has a turret that floats noticeably over the hull.
-
Work is progresing well...currently I'm UV mapping it and adding even more detail to it.
The polycount number you see is for the hull only (still unfinished, it should be over 3000 when it's done). Of course, better turrets are allso included :D

Hopefuly better turrets than those. Those look loke Playschool/Fisher Price toys, IMO.
But the model itself looks pretty good.
-
honestly, 3k for a capship of that size...
-
What's wrong with the turrets? they are round, smooth, detailed..
Like I said - I have no idea what the final polycount will be.. but I'm not aiming at uber-hight HTL ship figures (10000-20000 and more).
-
They are too round, and too smooth. A bit too fat, too. They look less imposing than they do bloated, IMO.
-
It's the turret barrels. They're a bit too fat compared to the base. Looks unbalanced.

Where? I never noticed one.

The only serious turret error I've ever seen on a :V: model is on the Arcadia...
