Post by: mr.WHO on July 14, 2005, 11:04:57 am
Could you tell me if (and where) there are any other TBP 3.2 stable campaings?? I mean exept buggy "Raiders Wars" with two insane hard missions and exept any "Earth vs Mimbari" with 2 Nials per each human ass. Thank you.

I'm not sure if there are any 3.2 compatible user made campaigns, but I why don't you give our "official" ones another try. The bugs on Raider Wars are easily fixed and if you have any trouble with a mission, try lowering the difficulty or ask for help here. There are plenty of people who can help you around here :)

Does FS2 have any "mission completed" cheats?? I'm asking because some RW mission don't allow to use "5 jump out- advance to the next mission"

There is a cheat to make all player flyable ships available to you. So you can swap your Aurora Starfury for a whitestar. Would that help? Also Mr Who, what kind of new campaigns would you like to see?

- Centauri vs Narn - EA vs. Dilgar - Centauri vs. ISA (this one when they attacked trade routes, I don't know the whole story) - Minbari vs Shadows
More stand alone SP missions.
BTW could anyone post a history of Centauri vs ISA conflict. I have an idea for Centauri campaing where you have to fight against ISA but I don't know the whole story and I'm not sure which empires join the fight.

- Centauri vs. Narn. The FA TBP campaign is a demo for that war.

TBP staff will most likely focus on EA Civil War campaign next. However, it is 3 times bigger project than Raider Wars was. It will take time to complete even first part of the campaign.
However, it is still up to mission designers themselves what they want to do, even though we encourage them participating to the EA Civil War campaign development.
This being the case, we encourage people who like TBP, to make more missions and campaigns. You will find a lot of useful material from Freespace Campaigns forums.
Making missions, not to mention campaigns that please the general public is not an easy task. Even if we have gone trough the trouble to ensure that Raider Wars, or any other mission for that matter, will be completely playable, there will still be something we've missed. Please don't disregard our (especially IPAndrews' and Darkblade's) hard work on Raider Wars too hastily. Luckily the SCP team has also paid more attention to fred2_open lately, which should allow making of missions little bit easier on your mental health.
As for missions being hard, well the mission designers of Raider Wars (namely IPAndrews) encourages you to think. Think of different ways to approach a difficult mission, a way you didn't thought of first might just make the mission a lot easier. If Minbari fighters are little too tough for you, lower mission difficulty from the game settings and you should do fine.

I'm going to pimp the FRED Academy (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,28122.0.html) too.
If you're new to FRED and want to learn I suggest you make a mission for us before you wander off and make your own campaigns.
That way you can get good feedback and improve your skills and then go and make the campaign once you know what you're doing a little better.
If you're just gagging for missions to play then Primus' mission (http://www.geocities.com/primus_nova/FA_C5M2_Primus_v4.zip) is pretty much stand alone anyway. Play it, then go to this thread (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,31419.0.html) and tell us what you think could be improved.

I want to appologise the creators of "RW" and "E-M war" I was after 6th try of that RW asteroid field freighter escort mission. I know that FREDing is a lot of work so again I'm sorry.
I'll try Primus mission tonight. BTW I just reallized that I still have to finish one FA mission.

No. They're single player campaigns. I believe there's only MP missions for TBP. Correct me if I'm wrong.

And nobody is interested in the cheat for Raider Wars to unlock all pilotable ships for the campaign? Surprising.
Back on the subject of new campaigns. I do think there's a serious market for a more conventional, easier campaign for TBP that doesn't involve heavy use of Nials or Zephyrs ;). I'd actually love to play that myself. I would warn against relying on sticking too closely to the series with your campaign scripts though. For exmaple, a Narn vs Centauri campaign. It would be easy to just throw together a lot of missions with the Narn getting their ass handed to them on a plate by the Centauri resulting in a climactic and ultimately failed defence of the Narn homeworld from a load of Secundus cruisers. I don't think this would be a particularly fun campaign.
Instead I would take inspiration from that conflict and put a new spin on it. If I were to write the script I would put the pilot on a Narn warship that battles the Centauri and scores a few victories. Only to see it's homeworld fall, but escape in the defence and then join the resistance. Helping people escape the Narn homeworld and maybe other Narn colonies across the galaxy escape the Centauri. Until the player finally goes back to the homeworld to see the Centauri kicked out at the end of the campaign.

The second half of that is pretty cloise to what the FA TBP campaign is doing.
As for the cheat. I can already fly the thunderbolt even when the mission says that I'll be flying a starfury. Who needs cheats?

If I wanted to do that 5 seconds with the campaign file would probably unlock it quicker ;)
It's a nice idea though. I might try it out later :)

OK, I'll bite ... so how do us mere mortals unlock all pilotable ships for the campaign?
Not that I've decided to do it, you understand, but as the scouts say... :-)

Could someone tell (all the crazy fans :) ) what are the release plans after R3.2?
I've heard quite a bit about the EA Civil War campaign (the script is ready?), but could you give a bit more insight? Will TBP release this campaign in smaller parts?
What are the next core priorities? (ships, effects etc. ...)
btw. for TBP 3.2 made so quickly! ( only 6 months after previous one!)

It is possible for you guys to make non-linear campaign? Like Narn vs Centauri where Narns can win if the player is doing good?
Title: New campaigns for TBP 3.2 ??
Post by: DaBrain on July 15, 2005, 01:02:33 pm
Yes, that is possible, but very complicated.
This should be used for one or two missions in a campaign.
BTW as we already know who wins the war, there are not many possibilities to use this anyway... ;)
Spoiler:
The Centauri win!!!

Well, they may win the war but they have been defeated later :D
It'd be fun to see both nation campaign lets say: - from the begining to Narn bombardment by Centauri side -from there to Narn liberation by Narn (two subcampaigns A) Resistance fight B) Uprising - then back to Centauri you have to cover CR retreat from Narn teritory.

I stated in my original campaign description, that it could be considered a demo campaign, as the main one could follow the crew of the G'Tok from the beginning of the war (or perhaps earlier dealings with raiders) though the fall of Narn, then the events of the demo, up through the Shadow war, then assisting in rebuilding the narn fleet, actions against Drakh raiding parties, then assisting in the liberation of Earth.

I will hopefully get a new hard drive next week, or the week after that. Then I should finally get myself online and downloading the new TBP version.
Then I'll check that the R3.2 doesn't mess up the balance of the FIXED MitM chapter 1. And I still am confident that I get the MitM chapter 2 finished before the end the summer. Only two missions are remaining, but I've been so busy lately.
