Since Fs2 went open, why hasnt there been any major overhaul of the command system? To be frank, I think FS2 needs some additions to it. I would like to see some more specific commands that tell my wingmen what do more accurately. What I would really want to see is more fire control options. I would want to be able to tell my wingmen to attack specific targets based on class (Attack Fighters Only for example, or Focus fire on Capital Ships). So, how about some changes to the command system. Since its open source, there really isnt a reason for it to be impossible to do.

There are two very good reasons: 1) none of the hosted projects have asked for it; and 2) nobody has chosen to code it.
If you'd like to code it yourself, by all means go ahead. There's no rule against it.

Class based attack orders for wingmen would be cool though.
Something like:
Attack -> Any fighters
Attack -> Any Bombers
Attack -> Any Bombs
...etc
.... would be really useful.

I dunno, I kind of like the KISS style myself.
My only improvement would be to change the definition of 'targeted' to include white-bracketed ships, and add a 'targeted ships' option to the comm menu to direct orders to.
That way you could highlight a wing with the shortcuts and order one wing to guard that one.

Some older missions might become easier.
eh.. what's the KISS style again?

Well, when we already at it, a "request permission to land" would be fun. Not that it was to any big use ingame the old wc-games, but it was a little more towars a realistic touch :D
