Title: Who here can write?
Post by: Shrike on July 31, 2001, 03:48:00 am: We're looking for some stuff to put in a HLP fanfic archive, seeing as the only other one in the community (Eish's) is basically gone.

So. Got some Freespace or IW fanfic? Make sure it's spellchecked and send it to me. Once I get a couple pieces, I'll get the archive itself up.

Anyway, I can write short stories. Here are my three questions though:

1.) Can we use vulgarities in our stories? Like maybe a character is cursing or something?

2.) What about sexual content? Maybe a male and female character..........you know the rest....don't you? Tell me you do....unless you are not educated in that.......yet..... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

3.) What about very detailed descriptions of how a character dies? Like stomach and intestines spilling out or getting friend to ashes or something more gross?

1) In moderation.
2) That's thin ice, we are hosted by GS don't forget.
3) It it's gratuitously gross, well, I think not.

Basically, the stories should be about Freespace or Independence War, not about Jack the Shivan Ripper. Why? Because that's not what we/I am looking for. People don't normally speak like the guys in Pulp Fiction. Under stress? That's different. As for sex and gore, well...... try to keep those at PG-13, if you know what I mean. You shouldn't need explicit sex/death to tell a story, at least not the stories we're looking for.

Does that help some?

umm i'm pretty sure you shouldn't use the guts spilling out thing. fried to ashes or vaporized sounds okay. i wouldn't go beyond that.

they would get burned to ashes before any of the happens. nuclear explosions tend to do that.

Here's a scary thought, I still have at least two dozen (maybe more) stories I never posted! I just ran out of passion for it. If you want the lot Shrike, I could send them too you. Hell, strip strip some of the older ones from the archive, I don't mind. Maybe you'll have better luck keeping it going than I did.

Bout time you showed up. Send the textfiles of the stories you'd most want put up to me, I'll whip them into shape. Cobalt will probably want to make a nice neat page for it, so I'll talk to him.

And well, we have renders and stuff here, why not expand to fanfic? It certainly keeps everything in the eyes of the community, if you know what I mean.
