I figured it might be interesting to use google maps to point out where we all are.
//maps.google.com
To see roughly where I am type in Belfast and scroll left and down a bit until you find a place called Lurgan in 'map' view. You have to be 6 notches down on the magnification bar to see the label.
Not surprisingly, it's a lot lower resolution than the U.S. but it's enough to show what the area is like.

-
Can't find the place, sorry....
It doesn't seem to have any maps for the Netherlands, either.
-
Strange indeed, Netherlands gives nothing yet Amsterdam works.

-
-
OI, how come Barrhead has more detailed maps than Glasgow?
-
Precision targeting.
-
brings an entirely new meaning to 'I can see your house from here'. :)
Seems only major cities have full resolution, they're the ones picked out in a darker colour at lower zoom levels.
EDIT: Strange, you're right Vyper. Perhaps they're doing full res on clear days as they are able?

-
I won't give you a more precise shot, but my house is somewhere on this pic. I can even see our car :D

For buckfast drops.
Mind you, you can clearly see the Gleniffer Braes and certain dogger's points...

The map is obviously several years old. My house is finished, but all the others (which are done by now) are not even begun.

There's one about 20 minutes drive from my house too near a marina.

My house (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=16920+sheldon+rd+los+gatos+ca&ll=37.222914,-122.000170&spn=0.003730,0.005239&t=k&hl=en) (the pointer is at the start of the driveway, so yes my house is the one slightly down and to the right.)
If you zoom out a bit, you can catch some of the awesome view of the entire valley that I have :D
-
Heh - this is cool. Unfortunately, it doesn;t have any real maps of my house at home, but the pics of the uni go up to the highest detail setting :)
See that H shaped building in the top left? That's where I have most of my classes. It's a 2 minute walk :D
-
Download google earth, tis better than the map proggy
-
I'll use Google Earth, as there are maps for Belgium there, abeit pretty low res, thats why I'll post my old house in America too

Now that I have your address... ;7 :drevil:
;)

I was zooming about in google earth a few days ago, and decided to zoom over Brisbane, Australia, to see if I could find Grug's house on the map.
I think I did.
-
LOL?
-
I'm... not sure what to make of... that. :wtf:
-
At home in Teh Boonies! (http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=35.615789,-80.700585&spn=0.065060,0.085316&z=3&t=k&hl=en) (if you can't see anything, zoom out one click), not much in the way of low-level shots so you can just barely make out the patch where houses might be.
And at school here (http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=36.000084,-78.938763&spn=0.008132,0.010664&t=k&hl=en)
-
To Raa: I think you didn't find Grugs house. The thing you found IS Grug. That :thepimp: is humongous.
Why doesn't it have any hi-res pics of my house, or even my country? I'm sad.

This picture is obviously over a year old, as the set of buildings I live in is still under construction in it.
http://uploads.hexellent.com/userfiles/Thorn/myhouse.jpg
Just to the right of the red thingy, you can see one completed building, half of the one I'm in, and the space for the third.
The big white building is a high school, and to the left is a Home Depot.
And this is how to get to DB's place from my house.

Oh noes!!!111222
-
Thankfully I don't live near a major hardware store, otherwise I'd have built that stargate by now.
I just don't have a bedroom big enough to take a 7 odd meter diameter ring and the electricity bill would be apocalyptic.

Hemet, California. Punks live on devonshire (i can hear their ****ing bass. what a headache.)
but yeah, it's a good place, but sirens galore on the 4th of July.

Party at DB's house! :D

I used terraserver. Because Google's pic is awful for my area.

That thing in the middle is the elementry school... I'm about half and inch up... (or two houses down the street, same side)...

My old house is also visible in that pic, towards the right of the image there is a lot without grass (dirt instead) old house is just to the left of that one (whitew square in backyard)

Gee whiz, Carl! why is your picture so much more zoomed in than ours?
Because HLPeople, i used http://terraserver.microsoft.com/ which zooms in twice as much as google!
-
And Terraserver also uses much more outdated maps than even Google! :p
-
And puts me in black and white! :p
-
And actualy google zooms in more than that anyways...
-
And Terraserver only covers the US

What he said.
Google Earth and NASA's WorldWind are superior because they don't falsely advertise - UNLIKE M$'s TerraServer. "Terra" my arse.
Anyway, I'm trying to learn the lat/long of my house by heart. It's hard: Lat 311.42"N, Long 3544.32"E - according to Google Earth. Worldwind has me at 31.73531/35.19558. Weird.
-
bah, alaskas sattelite photos are too low res.
-
Hehe, I bet terraserver has very detailed pics of Redmond... *goes and looks*
-
Try earth.google.com if you have broadband. It is WAY cool.

errr, no it doesn't.
-
Terraserver only covers the US - and only the continental US/Puerto Rico/Hawaii at that.
-
google earth still doesnt have high res maps of my area. the topograpgy is kinda cool though. nasa's app should have better piccys though.

not even worldwind shows my locale in any level of detail.
-
yay! now I get to stalk you all!
-
"Home":
It's a fairly outdated pic, for one thing the vacant block next door now has a house on it, but it's more than Google could do.
My current place of residence, though, is here:

Believe it or not, that is part of northern virginia. Amazingly, part that has not been developed. Matter of fact I found black widows in the garage when we moved in. :nervous:
-
Black windows? In case of air-raid? :wtf:
-
Black Widows.

Oooohhhh... :nervous:
Wow... really screwed that one up... :p

Somewhere in that picture, perhaps.
I'd had to make a rough geuss by using Amsterdam as a keyword, which is halfway accros the country. I'm hoping I picked the right blobs as cities for reference.
-
Right in the middle there.

That's the spot. Free tennis courts and a park right next to it. Markets are also nearby. It's a nice place to live.
-
I'd be careful Gortef. Looks like someone's got a laser sight aimed at you :D

My House (http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.aspx?T=4&S=8&Z=12&X=8679&Y=89400&W=1&qs=%7cAmerican+Fork%7c%7c) is the one in the bottom left portion of the middle, that looks sort of like an upside down L. You can see my blue car parked in the driveway.
-
Bah. Maps.google and earth.google use the same crappy resolution shots of my area. Anyway, here's a photo of the general area - this is as nice as I could get it to look...

Okay, so I don't have a parking permit yet (they're like $140! per year!), so my car is a ways off. And technically I'm not moved into the dorm yet.. that happens in September, so no stalking me until then. :nervous: And you can see the building I work in, my office is in the basement, lol. So I have a very close-quartered little life here on OSU's campus (that's Oregon, not Ohio). :p Wish I could show you more of our campus, it's quite beautiful, but my host only allows 200k size images. :doubt:
-
Hmm, I wonder what my place looks like from Google maps...

OH NOESSSS!!! :shaking:

Tsk, tsk... it's always so sad when a forum member gets nuked by a meteor. :nervous:

R.I.P. WMC :(

Nice try at faking your own death but you don't get out of working for the SCP that easily WMC. :p
-
It was too obvious, you should have used a subtle photo of somewhere not your home....a bit like I did...:nervous:
