the lightning work on the fighterbay render was better imo.
There's something wrong on with pic, but I can't put the finger on it...

Looking good. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) You're right, the beams need a little work, but not that much...I'd make the glow from the point on the GTSC brighter, with a white core. Other beefs: There's a bit of inconsistency in the lighting, most particularly on the asteroids. Give them the same lighting as the lower-left fighter and it would add a lot. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) The fighter in the top right needs to have the bottom side lit up by the beam- I think, it looks like it is right above the beam. My only other complaint is that the bumping on the Faustus is a bit too pronounced. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
Still though, nice work! The placement is done such that it makes a nice picture, and the background adds color without being overwhelming. And those are massively cool looking fighters. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
Alright, one more niggly- the bottom-left fighter has one engine glow visible, and it's in shadow. This is really easy to fix- just make the thruster self illuminating and add a transparency map(use the thruster .bmp) It makes for a nice bright engine glow.
