Title: Avi

I did this as an early piece of work for the LS trailer/intro.

I wasn't really happy with the end result, largely because I had to remove a lot of stuff to get a reasonable rendering speed.  Also the storyline changed and this didn't make a great deal of sense within that contect.

Here it is, anyways; http://www.sectorgame.com/aldo/media/mt1.avi (approx 1 meg)

Maybe it's a little bit too dark? Other than that it's quite nice.

How did you do the flames? I can't do nice flames. My flames look like brow balls of poo flying around.

Show us the new version too.

Looks good Aldo. Although I am left wondering where the camera was zooming out to at the end :D

Or rather what was going to be there when it got there :)

The intention was to transit to the credit/title and then a low orbit planet shot with some form of fleet scene.  I felt it was a bit too close to the FS2 intro in that regard, though.

(albeit the actual intro cutscene is a lot like the FS1 intro in its current concept, and intentionally so)

EDIT; the fire was done using the BlurLib fire effects.  They're available free from somewhere or other, but I don't have a link.  The smoke was off a tutorial; it's very easy to do far better smoke, but it uses a particle spray and thus slows down rendering.  I think this one took 1-2 minutes a frame, over 1000 frames.  Which was a bit of a pain (that's the reason why the landscape is plain; otherwise it'd be dotted with rocks and desert plant life, as well as other ancillery debris & fire sources).

1000 frames? how many frames per second do you use?
Oh, and don't use raytraced shadows, it's kindda useless on such dark scenes.

25fps, I think.

25 fps is the PAL standard.  I felt it was the most appropriate.
