OK, so I realise I'm a little late to the game here, but I just picked up a copy of Freespace 2, so I can enjoy my new joystick. Got the 1.2 patch, then version 3.6.5 of FSO with the launcher, plus the high resolution pack - whoa, this looks really nice (and now it works with 1024x768, which the normal version doesn't seem to for some reason).
However, I'm having a few issues with the HUD. When using aspect tracking missiles, the aspect tracking area is way in the lower right hand corner of the screen, even when it locks on. Some parts of the HUD just do not show up at all - the energy meter, the afterburner meter, and the image of my ship (with shields) come to mind, there's probably more.
Not sure if it's related, or a known bug, or what, but a lot of text seems out of wack. I get the flashing signal for "explosion" (or whatever it is) and when an enemy missile is locked on to me, but I don't get the text. At the end of missions, the text is about 2 inches down and to the right of where it should be.
I'm pretty new to this whole deal, so if I'm posting in the wrong forum, or asking the wrong questions, or have just failed to read the right section of the manual, my apologies in advance.

you're running at 1024x768?
-
Yes, I am. Sorry, coulda done with a few more details.
1024x768x32 with DirectX9 and 4x multisampling, video is "All features on", "Fix font distortion" on/off doesn't seem to matter, general settings are "High".
Running on a GeforceFX 5900XT, with 80.40 drivers, IIRC.
-
Hmm, that's weird then, does this happen at 800x600?
-
640x480, do you mean?
No, everything shows up fine in that resolution.
Edit: 1024x678@16bit still loses the HUD.
-
i have no idea then, someone else will be of more assistance.
-
Hmm... doesn't look like it. I have a "sparky_fs2.vp" though.
-
oh, ok, i think you need sparky_hi to go to good resolutions. Did you buy fs2 at the store? did you check "install hi-res interface art" (or somthying to that effect) when you installed it?
-
Hmm. Come to think of it maybe not.
I got Freespace in torrent form. Reinstalling now.
-
3.6.5 doesn't support nonstandard resolutions (and 1024x768 is nonstandard if you don't install the hi-res interface art).
-
Yeah, nevermind. Appears I didn't install the hi-res art. Boy, it looks a lot better with it!
Chalk this one up to stupidity :/
-
Nah. Lots of people make that mistake :)
I wonder how hard would it be to get the launcher to warn that 1024x768 is a non-standard resolution when you don't have sparky_hi installed. Now that Taylor has largely fixed the non-standard resolution problems I can picture us getting a lot of question from people complaining about crappy graphics because they're running the 640x480 interface in 1600x1200 mode.
