WARNING: Do not try this (http://www.livescience.com/technology/destroy_earth_mp.html) at home.
[q]Mission statement
By any means necessary, to render the Earth into a form in which it may no longer be considered a planet. Such forms include, but are most definitely not limited to: two or more planets; any number of smaller asteroids; a quantum singularity; a dust cloud.
....
What this guide is not
This is not a guide for those whose aim is merely to wipe out humanity. I can in no way guarantee the complete extinction of the human race via any of these methods, real or imaginary. Humanity is wily and resourceful, and many of the methods outlined inside will take many years to even become available, let alone implement, by which time mankind may well have spread to other planets; indeed, other star systems.
If total human genocide is your ultimate goal, you are reading the wrong document. There are far more efficient ways of doing this, many which are available and feasible right now. Nor is this a guide for those wanting to annihilate everything from single-celled life upwards, render Earth uninhabitable or simply conquer it. These are trivial goals in comparison.
This is a guide for those who do not want the Earth to be there anymore.[/q]

Brilliant! I especially love #2.
-
've seen this before. But it was alot better when I read it elsewhere. I liked the disclaimer on the bottom of the other one.
-
#2 reminds me of those little probes from Star Control...
#10 I like though.

I don't get this:
# Minimum amount of time until the Earth is destroyed by natural means (discounting total existence failure): 25 years
# Minimum amount of time until the Earth is destroyed by artificial means: 50 years
?

He means that, of the theories proposed, the Earth would be destroyed at the soonest in 25 years by natural means, or 50 years by artificial means. That is, using one of the methods described.
-
Well, natural means is getting hit by a bloody great rock. If it was sooner than 25 years away, we would have detected it already. Artificial means is by the von Neumann machines (could also be called Grey Goo) - we're about 50 years off having that kind of technology.
Nice find, Sandwich.

this is like the third time this has been posted.

Newton's first law, eh?

Umm, strange analogy, I guess it kinda works...

#12: If you destroy the sun, you destroy the earth, and every other planet in the system.
Can be done.

Supernova anyone?

Not...quite.
That depends on how you do it. If you just manage to get it to disperse, that's probably not going to cut it.

Well, I guess someone had to ruin this funny thread with some **** like this.
Good job. :doubt:

bah, just nuke the whole place from orbit.
-
It's the only way to be sure. ;)

He's probably thinking more like the Shivans and Capella.

Tie two spaceships to opposite ends and have them pull in opposite directions!

Really? I missed it before... Huh.

The goal isn't to wipe out all life on the planet, the goal is to annihilate the planetary body Sol III, a.k.a. "Earth".
-
A highly focused and insanely powerful laser should be able to cut the planet in half. For example, the amount of light energy in a 40w light bulb, focused into a laser 1mm thick can burn a hole thru a book in less than a minute... But the laser will most likely burn out before that happens ;).

I don't think destroying the sun would kill off the Earth. Our Sun is too small to explode in a supernova when it dies, but it will swell into a red giant, swallow up Earth and most likely melt it. Since the Sun will then begin to shrink, I'm not totally sure whether all of Earth will be vaporized or not. Either way, the natural destruction of the Earth is an inevitable event, unless we intervene by doing it ourselves.
Oh! I know!
Vogons. :P

Actually, this isn't the site I remember...
-
We saw it in a nasa thread not too long ago... I remember reading it at school...

Sad. Just sad. But I guess it's my fault. I should have realized that someone would inject politics into every decent thread.
You're entitled to your opinion, I'm entitled to mine. I'm not going to argue over it anymore. I'm just not going to stoop down to that level.
Another thread bites the dust.

[color=66ff00]Dude you need to relax, we are after all in a thread that details the destruction of the world.
All of the suggestions on that website are theoretically possible, I threw in one that was blatently silly. How is it your fault BTW?

Was thinking out loud there, my fault for getting riled up and mixed up in political-ish threads, which it wasn't to begin with.
