Title: Targeting Reticle Slowdown...
Post by: AqueousShadow on July 25, 2005, 12:04:16 am
So like, I'm not sure if it's called a reticle, but that's what I remember. It's the box in the corner that shows the stats of the ship you're targeting as well as a model.

Anyway, I've been experiencing some slowdowns in the game, but they're only at specific times, and I'm starting to suspect most of it is due to the targeting because the last time it happened I recall I targeted a Fenris (being hi-poly) and it did a whole slowdown thing. I dunno, I should really go back and check what's causing my slowdowns (they're not really slowdowns, more like freezes in the game, and then it picks up again).

The question is: does the game load the models in the targeting box a la Tech Room?

I'm sure that would be causing some slowdowns. Would there be anyway to fix it?

Probably just too many textures.  It's likely not the reticle, but rather the target status window, since it has to render the whole ship in that little box.  Sounds to me like when you target the thing, your video card has to load up the textures.

Yes, that's what I mean. Rendering the ship in that box. But uhh...I uhh...was looking through the features and found the online help that said it should be used with large textures.

I'll try and see if it fixes my problem ... :blah:

EDIT: So, I'm pretty sure my slowdowns aren't caused just by the targeting box. I'm probably giving my comp too much to handle. But ... jpg and tga textures are so sexy...
