Title: A Lion At The Door
Post by: brozozo on July 26, 2005, 11:36:21 pm
Is it possible to destroy the SFr Maul (The first freighter to arrive and depart) without cheating?

I always try, but it gets away. I've ordered every fighter on it, but it still manages to get away.

I just answered my own question. It is possible. The destruction of it's cargo and when it departs are connected. I just pounded it from behind with primaries.

Or you can use akhetons to disable it. Then you can do anything you want to it, and it won't be able to get away.

The same thing holds true for the rest of them. I thought that was a nasty bit of FREDding, myself...

It's very annoying. Very, very annoying.

Why do you want to destroy it? Attack the Rakshasa instead. It causes the most danger.

Perfectionism.

Secondary/bonus objectives, maybe?  Maybe because the Rakshasa will die no matter what you do and you want to kill everything?  Maybe because it's listed in the directives box and turns red when the freighter departs?  Why would you NOT want to destroy it?

You get more score for contributing in the kill of the Rakshasa. You get no score for completing directives or goals. That's, I think the main problem with objectives in the Main Campaign.

So order your wingmen to ignore the Rakshasa and kill it yourself once the freighter is dead if you're a glory hog.

or you could just use c-3-0. I do it all the time. Of course, I'm rather miffed when I order my wingmen to "engage the enemy" and they "return to base".

I replayed the start of this mission at least ten times before I was able to kill that damn freighter. :p Just like BlackDove, I'm a perfectionist.  I care nothing about how many points or promotions I get; I care everything about completing every possible objective (save Bearbaiting, where killing those four beam cannons alone gave me enough of a coronary to not even consider the flak cannons/bonus turret :p).

Have you managed to stop Bosch in either of the first two missions yet? :p

I have with cheats.

I actually came within 4% subsystem strength of stopping the Iceni in the second mission, without cheating...

How!?

I can only manage to get within 1500m before he gives his spiel and jumps out.

I'm guessing he means in the asteroid mission, which is the second mission of the campaign.

I managed to get it down to its last engine by the time it jumped out (~70% IIRC) on Hard.

The trick is to blow up the engines on the installation ASAP.

Not specifically; Tempests and Subachs are my standard low-tech dogfight loadout for a Myrmidon.

WMCoolman is correct, the asteroid mission.
