I wouldnt being saying God is great if I just shot a man from 75 yards away with such precision that has chest should have been ripped open, but then having him get up and run away, I would be yelling OMGWTF H4X FUKXNG NOOB!11@#

I saw this on... Fox news, of all places... about 2 weeks ago.......

-
That must've stung a bit...

"Allahu akhbar" - "God is great"

Hmm, the guy who shot doesn't like killing.
Pussy.
-

:nervous:

Aldo Suckah :nervous: :p

Oh there you go, now we're gonna have a ****ing jihad against HLP for blasphemy.
Hey that would make a great UT style fiction...
-
There's a story going around, I can't verify the accuracy, that after all this happened and the soldiers enaged in a firefight with the insurgents, the man who was shot (a medic) actually treated the sniper's wounds.
Kerazy.
-
I guess kevlar vests work pretty well then. :nervous:

The soldier said it himself. he was interviewed on the news snippet I saw.

lol KARE11, never thought I'd see that here.
Anyways, that's like something you see in CS or DoD or whatnot.... Lucky bastard is all I got to say.
(And, BTW, you might wanna put a NSFW warning on that ogrish link, that site has some....... shall we say messy content.)

I'm surprised people are reacting this way... This just makes me sad.

How so?

React in what way?
It's a nice story and all that, but it's nothing mindblowing or special. Just another day in a warzone.

People DO get shot in warzones sometimes. Sometimes they get up, sometimes they can get medical attention and live, and sometimes they die.
EDIT: Besides, they wear body armor. So I'm not really seeing what the big deal is.......
-
I see you've never played a First Person Shooter, and thus have never experienced the crippling frustration of shooting a man dead on, perfect shot, could kill anyone!...only to see them get up and walk away and/or later kill you! :hopping:
This video is a live-action reproduction of that event...

I don't think this compares to a video game.

Not even close...

I'm shocked by some of the reactions here.
Well, not that shocked.

I have played many FPS games. :p
And real life != video games.

People comparing war to video games. I really shouldn't be that shocked. My friends would probably say the same things said here already.
-
Some of the people on Hard Light truly need to get out more.
-
EtherShock gets it.
-
Yeah. That's the big problem with most young people these days (at least in this country), they just think war is just a video game.
-
It's funny how you people think cs actually teaches u something about real life guns.
They had lag give em a break, it's not like other countries. I bet they only have dialup in the middle east.

Nope... well, at least I have broadband. :p
And the "correct" transliteration of that phrase (which, incidentally, is what suicide bombers shout out before pressing the self-destruct trigger) is "Allah hu akbar", "Allah" being their name for God, "hu" meaning "he (is)", and "akbar" meaning "great".

Blame TV news.... it's strange, when they had the first reporting in WW1, and then TV in Nam, it turned generations against war. Now, it makes it look cool.
-
this is....interesting. The man must have been really, really lucky if it missed all the vital organs and allowed him to get away safely, or for the armour pad to have deflected/absorbed the shot as well as it did.
Either way, he is indeed a very lucky (and judging from the story where he treated hte sniper's wounds) a very good man. Probably couldn't have happened to a nicer guy I bet.

If body armor didn't stop that bullet, it is highly improbable that he would have gotten up.
-
*Is glad that body armor actually works...*
-
Well, at least there is armor on something.

Hey, I'm still young. Give us a little credit.

Yeah, because it's awesome to die when you have your whole life ahead of you or have to have a limb amputated or become disabled in some other way. That just rocks! No, you're right. The media isn't helping this. No one has the balls to show bloody and gruesome material like they did during 'Nam. But they sure know how to say, "War kicks ass!"
I will admit that it is amazing the guy survived. I didn't think bulletproof vests stopped sniper rounds. I wouldn't say it's cool though. The fact that this guy then arrested and treated the sniper will be all over the damn news for a week. You can be sure the military will use this in an attempt to counter all the negative publicity, proclaiming that our soldiers are heroes. I'm not going to spit on them when they return, but I wouldn't call them heroes. They're just doing their job, which is to do whatever The Man tells them to do, a job I don't agree with.
*Prepares to be flamed for being "unpatriotic"*
-
You're at the wrong place kid. Nobody gives a ****. That's why they're still dying. Get it?
-

It depends on what kind of ammunition is used and also what kind of rifle is used.
If one of the "cop killer" bullets is used (which the NRA didn't want banned, but that is a different story), then you're screwed even with a bullet proof vest. They were designed specificaly to take out people with bullet proof vests.
Something like an AK-47 with regular ammunition is a different story. It has a reletively low muzzle velocity, I think.
-
IIRC heavy body armour - that designed to stop, say, an ak47 - are or have steel, titanium, etc plates to reinforce specific trauma areas. Some can stop a .30 caliber armour piercing bullet - the only problem with them is the weight and potential movement restriction.
-
Level III or IV ballistic armour can, in theory, stop most 5.56 or 7.62 rifle rounds. Level IV plates should be able to stop certain sniper rounds (certainly not .50 cal, as far as I know there is no personal body armour that can do that) but the insurgents are most likely using smaller calibre snipers like the Dragunov or M76.

I wasn't comparing it to a Video Game, i was simply highlighting how interesting it is how much Life can imitate Art, and viceversa...

I'm not trying to bait or start fights...but I fail to see the lack of comparison. "is" is a comparison word.

Are you truly willing to seed an arguement over a mis-communication care of ineffective grammer?
Indeed, a better phrase for me to have used;
"The afermentioned movie is indeed akin to said situation, thus liable to elicit humour and/or wonderment"

Meh, I try not to do arguements nowadays unless somebody really pisses me off or starts it. Just isn't worth my time. People on the internet can't piss me off because I don't even know them.:p

Well, there's a first time for everything...

 I knew it was only a matter of time until someone notice the Ackbar connection, and you people sure know a lot about military equipment.
