Title: Spamfest 1234A-C
Post by: Cobra on July 31, 2005, 07:08:30 pm
i was playing Raider wars when i noticed a ****load of grammer, spelling, and .wav placement errors. *bangs on ceiling* idjits better learn!

[EDIT] Oh, and the ship classes were never right in the briefings. Auroras would be Minbari or Narn fighters, a jumpgate as an FS-style jump node, etc.

It's unfortunate, but that's how it has to be done.  Until the briefing icon system becomes more flexible, we'll just have to live with it.  Might also benefit from a species_def table, but I'm not completely sure what the potential advantages and problems exist with it yet.

Instead of insulting the team  could you possibly be more constructive and point out the errors so we can fix them?

Cobra, your behaviour was completely out of place. You are behaving like a spoiled brat who thinks he can do anything better. I assure you that you or anyone else who keeps up such behaviour will be dealt with.

We welcome constructive criticism and detailed descriptions of each problem encountered. In fact, this would have been moreso welcome when we gave Raider Wars 2.0 for beta testing.

Cobra is entitled to his opinion although if I knew how much work went into putting together that campaign he'd probably be more understanding ;).

I pointed out .wav errors during beta testing and you folks didn't fix them, so frankly, Cobra's right.

I endeavoured to fix all errors pointed out to me. I spent a great deal of time doing so. Some errors slipped through. Some errors even reappeared after they had ben fixed. Probably due to the difficulty of many mission designers handling multiple versions of large numbers of files at different sites. The important thing though, is that I should not have to be saying any of this.

Although you are entitled to your opinions it would probably have been polite not to state them in such strong and personal terms. Based on the huge amount of unpaid work I and others did on the RW campaign we are naturally going to find this kind of superior, dismissive, and ungrateful attitude both upsetting and demoralising. This was the intention of course. So, I should probably congratulate you on a job well done.

I can reassure you that I for one will not do such a bad job working on the Earth Civil War campaign. In fact I will not work on it at all. I would have to be a complete and utter idjit to put in so much work for such little appreciation a second time.

As much as I agree with IP, we've got to remember that 95% of the feedback is still positive and encouraging. I for one am not going to be put down by a few pointless insults

The message about the briefing leads me to belive that Cobra doesnt know **** about making missions for TBP. And that, in my estimation, does not give him the right to present that kind of crap as feedback. Yes, everyone has the right for an opinion, but one should consider the fact that some people might get hurt by that opinion. And by the way it was presented.
For a product made by fans for fans, this is greate quality. But every amateur project will have flaws and bugs. And when the TBP team has to bear wiht a huge group of fanatical fans breathing down their necks telling them to hurry up and release something. Then what happens? Some people get upset because few minor bugs got missed! Ofcourse you should point out those flaws so that they could be fixed. But that doesn't make you a better human being than everyone else.

I am honoured to part of this community, and will strive to help it and the team to make TBP even better.
If Cobra isn't pleased on the quality of TBP he can go and play Doom, or some other commerical clone piece of clone ****.

While I can understand how annoying comments like those are. I assure you that the majority of fans on this board loved RW.

Speaking as one FREDder to another I've got nothing but praise for the work you guys have done on the campaign.

*sigh*

look, i'm not saying the work on RW sucks, i'm just pointing out a few errors, and volunteering to fix the grammar issues.

and RW really is great, and i congratulate you on being the 2nd campaign i've ever played to use the scary/creepy dream scenario. ;)

[EDIT] Eeeevil lurks in the simultaneous posts... :nervous:

It isn't what he said, it was how he said. He has already been temp banned from HLP for attacking someone a while ago. Appearently he hasn't learned from it. He didn't even say "I'm sorry".

Since I'm trapped on a dial-up connection for a while, I haven't had a chance to try out the new base and the new raider wars releases. But I played the last release of both of them, and I liked them. I think you guys are doing excellent work. Keep it up.

You still don't get it, do you? Calling someone a "complete and utter idjit" is hardly constructive.

Unfortunatly, I find it exceedingly difficult to believe you when you say you didn't mean it. I highly doubt that IP will believe you either.

It is not my fault if you are unwilling to come into the light. I tried to reason with you and show you why IP and the other member of TBP reacted the way they did, but you would not listen.

EDIT: I will say no more about this. It is obvious that you are not willing to understand.

EDIT2: Screw it.

IPA's right. Hell, I was surprised how much work was involved, and most of the final Freding was done by himself and a guy who's name I forget (sorry dude!). Mainly 'cos people kept screwing up his carefully construted depart events, no doubt. :nervous:

And that was just for v1 too.

oh, **** off kosh, i've had enough. i offer some criticism, say something i don't really mean, and what do you do? you turn this god damn god-forsaken thread into a flame fest.

some people just don't know when to leave me alone. :sigh:

Now now, settle down.

Cobra, I think it it obvious that people think you were out of line there. That you can not deny. You should learn from this to choose your words better, there is a fine line between sarcasm and insult.

Oh, and typing I'm sorry would not hurt either.

ok, fine. I'm sorry. is that enough?
Title: About writing constructive criticism...
Post by: aipz on August 01, 2005, 04:21:42 pm
I think that Cobra simply didn't think too much when he wrote his unfortunate post...

He was angry, because RW isn't a simple campaign, which you can complete within 4-5 hours...

And so negative emotions took the upper hand, which REALLY isn't good for the community as such... :doubt:

There is a SUBTLE difference between a constructive talk and  personal offence...
Writing insults will never solve anything, it will only cause chaos and conflict...
:headz: :snipe: :arr:

So I think that we should close this unforunate topic, for the sake of all...

BUT we should NOT FORGET this lesson as such... (if we want to keep the discussion boards a nice place :) )

I'd suggest a split/lock rather than just a straight lock.  There's too much other important discussions from before this that wouldn't serve from being terminated.

BTW, I've oft heard it said, that one can avoid missunderstandings due to missed sarcasm, by the use of smilies, or a simple (JK) after the remark in question.  Just notes for the future.

This isn't the first time this has happened. He has been temp banned for attacking someone else, and that obviously didn't work.

Then when I try to help him understand, he refuses to understand and actually DEFENDS his comment like it wasn't a bad thing. Then he decides to attack me for no reason except to be an *******.

I say ban the son of a ***** and get it over with. In my two years here I have never said that about any user. But frankly he deserves it. He has been warned ande he still ignores the warnings.

Kosh, you were correct to say that Cobra has forgotten the warnings he was given...but that doesn't mean you can throw vulgar language at him like that.

It's all part of growing up. :)

Eh...get back to the main point now.  What errors were there? :D

You flamed me first. I flamed you because you flamed me. Age is irrelevant.

In case may or may not have noticed, he DID start using vulgar language first.
