With episode 2 testing being wrapped up, we are looking for testers to work on episode 3.
So we need from prospective testers:
1) Your best E-mail contact (make sure this is here - it'll be easier to make up contact lists this way)
2) Any previous experience in MOD work or test work for FreeSpace projects.
3) Why you would be best suited to help out.
4) When you are available and for how long. (i.e. when September arrives you become a hermit)
PM me with that information.
Reply time may take ~2 weeks. As we want to wrap up episode 2 and go through tester "resumes."
-
Only serious replies please.

Hey, i'm willing to give it a shot; i've never before been involved in any test work for a Freespace MOD, but I seem to have an uncanny ability to find errors and problems with missions and such, a byproduct of my terrible luck :p (just so it's known, i'll be available to do anything for several months after my HSC Trials finish in a week or so) - Email - [email protected]

Can help too. E-mail

Applications will only be accepted if the directions in the first post are followed.
So far only one application has met that requirement.
-
You should make that two, I think.
Unless the board daemons ate my PM.
-
Yup, two now :)
-
We've received a few good applications. By Friday you should receive a message about whether you are in the beta or not, and you should then receive your access to the internal forum.
-
Just a small update, we've received a few more good applications.
As a reminder, for those who will be participating in the beta if you're not active you will get the axe from the project, Kepler style.
Now this might just be a comment or two, which will be doing better than a good chunk of the folks from the last round who stopped posting feedback 35 missions ago with no explanation. (maybe a karmaic backslash for the good feedback from KV and BD? :p )

Which means we'll be using the Golgotha's Meson Cannon to remove your house from orbit...yes, yes indeed :D

maybe as part of the culling process we should make applicants email someone exactly three weeks (within a day) of there application, that will seperate the weak from the strong.
-
I think actually posting in the internal once they're given access will be more than sufficient :p
-
or being required to post in the internal at least once a week for the life time of the project, and if they fail we send the dogs after them!
or the bees maybe!?
-
Nah, just Steeve.
He's very... very hungry you know. Especially since Colonel Shepard shot him....
-
it amazes me how many people claim they have an uncanny ability to run into bugs...really u need something more original...

"Or what? You'll release the Dogs? Or the Bees? Or the Dogs with Bees in their mouths so when they bark they shoot Bees at you? Well go ahead! Do your worst!!"

The requirement for staying in the beta testing and enjoy the privilidge of the internal forum is to contribute to beta-testing in any way you can (even if you can't find bugs, you can still give your impressions on the mission/story/etc.).
If not, actions will be taken accordingly. Simple.

if i may......
When beta testing something that alot of people overlook is simply hitting the icons in the briefing, making sure that the ship type that pops up is accurate to the icon representation. i don't know how many times i have discovered that the icon was the wrong ship type....ie a freighter icon, and when i hit it...it pops up as a hercules mk II.
Something else to be aware of, if you have any fred ability at all, open the mission in fred and copy and paste each page of briefing, debriefing, and each spoken line of events into a word processing program to spell check....please don't fix the problems....simply make the powers that be aware of them. otherwise we will have 900 versions of a mission running around.
Also....when beta testing, do the unexpected. If you are supposed to protect a certain ship...don't do it, and see what happens. There should always be ramifications to this sort of thing, and if we have forgotten it, invariably someone will find it after release and we will have egg on our faces over the deal. Beta testing is probably the most underrated segment of building a mod, as it is always one of the most important steps.
play the missions on more than one difficulty setting. This will allow for a broader range of balancing issues to be detected.
last but not least....check loadouts. it was stated a long time by Ace i think, that one problem with homemade campaigns has always been the ability to fly the mara (terrans) in a given mission.....this is a pet peeve for more than one of us, and should Never happen...so if you see this...red flag that mission automatically.
Just my two cents on beta testing, so that applicants know what they are getting into, and what is expected of them.

I'd like to thank everyone who sent an application for the beta test.
If you have been accepted, you will receive a PM shortly.
