Title: Ts5.0 - What the ****!!!!
Post by: aldo_14 on August 07, 2001, 02:26:00 pm
Ok, so I've made a very nice model, and I load it in TS5.0... chick the normals, all fine   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif) .  There's a few wee missing bits, but triangulating will fix those.

So I triangulate.......

Now look at the wonder of Ts boys and girls.

Fine here before i triangulate - although some nearby faces are a tiny bit dodgy.

And BOOM!!! TS promptly draws a line across the face.... and decides to leave this hole here.  chamring, eh?  so now the best model i have ever made, the one that's taken 20 hours up to this point is wrecked.  And I can't seem to select the face to try and flip the normals.  (In fact, I know know I can't even create a face by selecting the nearby vertices  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif) )

Brilliant, eh?

send me the model in 3ds format, if you want. I can have a look in Max to see what's wrong. (or send me the untriangulated version, so I can do it in max)

Ok... I've now found it happens somewhere else too      (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif)

Hey, Venom, what's your e-mail?

I have the untextured (UV mapped) models saved in 3ds.

[EDIT]

Well, now this is odd.... the mistake does not occur when triangulating with TS1... but with TS5.  nice, eh?

Oh, and look... Lithunwrap, which is free - can triangulate it too!!! Whoop de-*****-do Caligari -  you're the best ever (sarcasm)

(what a pile of ****   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/mad.gif) )

I could have told you about that. The only advice I can give is a link to the free demo for TS4/3/2.

Do they trinagulate things properly - or jst cut them into holes?

Sigh.

my email is [email protected] , but now the model is working thanx to ts1, no?

sort of.... I normally use the untriangulated hull as LOD2, and then triangulate and turret it.... but it looks like I can't do that now  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif).

Maybe I'll forego LODs for this one or something....I have siome ides how to fix it, so I think I can bluff my way through.

Still, I hate Truespace.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

Thanks for offering anyway, venom.

The first screwed up texture is just a bad UV map.  Try mapping the face individually with a planar map and fix it like that.

As for the face, just select the segment and delete the vertices, that should get rid of it.

Hope this helps.

Well, I can't select the corrupted face atall (either inside or outside the model), so I've just triangulated it in TS1 and restarted the mapping.

Damn, not at all.  Hmmmm, that's really strange.  When you moved your mouse over the face, what did it do?

Ifn' you've already started remapping, good luck, I know how TS 1 can be  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)  The model you were doing looks pretty cool.

I'm using ts5 for the mapping - i just triangulated with ts1.  the holes appear fixed now, at least, and I have a superb job done fopr the model  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

I did try to triangualte face myself, by drawing an edge where the triangulation was creating, it but it never worked.

Not that it really matters - the new tex job is far, far better than the previous one  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
