Title: The Computer Problems Just Won't Stop...
Post by: Cobra on August 06, 2005, 11:58:47 pm
yeap, another problem for this piece of **** i call a computer.

I keep getting an error when i start up my computer saying that some program called NT Authority or something has told lsass.exe to terminate and the computer must shut down. originally, i didn't get this problem much, but now i have to keep shutting down my computer twice before it works again.

and i'm completely stumped.

[color=66ff00]You see this is why people are having a hard time with you cobra. Contrary to what you might think people are more willing to help someone who has at least made some attempt at helping themselves. Your previous statement basically says:

I posted this in order to make someone else do work that I was unwilling to do.

You are either wasting the time of others that could be spent doing useful work or you are wasting your own time by posting before thinking and thus alienating yourself. When I saw your thread in the modding forum about skinning I thought you might actually be making progress towards trying to do something constructive, this thread says otherwise.

i was stumped, didn't know what to do, didn't think that google would have the answer, and came to you guys for help. i don't really see what the problem was, Maeglamor. (this statement is not hostile, btw)

Next time, when you're stumped, try something before you come over here and ask a question, then five minutes later after being told to search, find your answer.

Cobra, you'd be amazed at the number of times Google will come up with the answer to just about any issue you can think of. It's kind of humbling to realize that, in that regard, we're not unique - other people before us have had similar, if not identical, problems, no matter what it may be.

Ditch that POS software you call a firewall, and get a real one.  I knew what the problem was before I even finished reading the rest of your first post.  But I'm not going to tell you what it is, or how to fix it.  All you have to do is type "NT authority terminate lsass.exe" into google, and you will probably get 50,000+ results, all of which explain the same thing.  Go ahead and do it, no one else will do it for you.

i got a reliable document telling me what to do about this, and, well, my computer has absolutely none of the symptoms of the W32 Worm Blast virus.

Apart from the really big one you posted at the top of this thread of course.

Isn't this the 3rd or 4th time you've posted to say that your computer is infected? Either you've got to stop visiting porn and warez sites or you've got to beef up your security.

It's no use blaming the PC when something like this is obviously your fault.

god dammit, i do NOT go to porno or warez sites. every time i need help with something, it's something like "Well duh, you go to porno or warez sites." It pisses me off. Royally. i am NOT some horny 14-year-old boy looking for free porn.

*sigh* you people are all against me, no matter what i try to do. :sigh:

Then you need to beef up your security. You've been told enough times. The Sasser virus doesn't spontaneously appear on your PC as if by magic.

What firewall are you using? What anti-virus? What spyware detector are you running? Most important of all are you using the above 3 properly or are you just clicking yes to every single security warning without reading it?

I'm not against you Cobra but people on this board are getting tired of trying to help you when you show a basic inability to help yourself. You've been told repeatedly how to secure your system and yet again you've failed to do it.

There's a limit to how many times people are going to be willing to tell you to install a firewall.

And look at people like Rictor or myself. I won't say anything, but I really doubt ALL the site we visit are 100% virus/worm/trojan free, but if you have :
-a firewall (configured like it should)
-an antivirus (any will do)
There's nearly nothing that will infect your pc. Use two or three spyware if you want to be sure nothing stay ( spybot and ad-aware come to mind).

A draconian firewall stops most things. Firefox combined with Spybot S&D stops everything else.

I haven't used an antivirus program in years. The last virus I got was CIH, and NAV2001 was unable to stop it infecting the system.

HOW TO CLEAN UP YOUR WINDOWS BOX IN ONE EASY POST:

Boot your machine into safe mode with network support. This should prevent the offending NT Authority thing from starting with your computer.

Install AntiVir (http://www.free-av.com), Spybot S&D, Lavasoft Adaware, ZoneAlarm firewall, and Firefox. Update them all, and install the Firefox extension "NoScript" from the Extensions bookmarked page.

Reboot into safe mode WITHOUT network support and physically disconnect your machine from the internet.

Run AntiVir, Spybot, and Adaware, allowing them to clean up anything they find and deleting infected files.

Still in safe mode after those have run, go to the start menu, click Run, type 'msconfig' into the commandline box, and hit Enter. In msconfig, click the Startup tab and uncheck the boxes for every program you don't recognize, including NT Authority and any DLLs and/or EXEs that have random-character names. This screen should also provide paths and filenames for these programs, so that you know what is what. When it asks to restart, tell it no.

Run Scandisk and Defrag/Diskeeper/whatever to get back some of your lost speed. You'll probably never have a better opportunity.

Reboot into normal mode. Make sure AntiVir Guard, ZoneAlarm, and Spybot S&D Teatimer start with the system. Set your default browser to Firefox and be happy that you now have a relatively clean system.

You may now reconnect to the internet and resume your regularly scheduled programming.

cobra use the windows update to patch your OS against the sasser virus. its simpel as that. that problem was solved months ago.

And cobra people here are not against you, its only that you ask to many of the questions that have been solved a long time ago, thatswhy many of the members don't bother answering your threads. You have to learn to search for information, thats the beauty of the internet.
