Title: Is FSOpen needed?
Post by: Hellraiser on August 07, 2005, 09:30:50 am
Hello, i ain't sure if this has been covered, but will the FSOpen be required to run your campaign??

If so, will you be added the files required or stating which files will be needed, so we don't install a load of files that aren't even used?

FSOpen is needed to play.

As far as the files being used by the campaign, that will most likely be explained on release. So far, the campaign is incomplete, therefore it's still unknown.

which means i am likely gonna be pissed, since the FSOpen always crashes with me in one way or random at random times, thats why i never use it.

Well, at the very least, you still have plenty of time to make it work.

There are a multitude of ways to do that, best one located here http://lore.maxgaming.net/~scp/mantis/main_page.php

Reading these first helps though http://scp.indiegames.us/content.php?content.2

There are versions that are meant for testing and are incomplete.  If you aren't wanting to be on the cutting edge...stick with a release of FS Open that is bug tested.

BWO when it arrives, will likely support the most recent and stable/bug tested build of FS Open.  We won't release with support for a beta version...only the official ones that they have.

If you're having troubles....you may want to talk to the team as well.  Part of the community processs is to get problems sorted or discover why they happen and find a workaround for you.

Most of the missions were designed to run under FS2 retail.

However, we're planning on doing a custom BWO build that will have all of the features we need for the campaign.

well, that does make me feel much better, but it is difficult to know which is bug tested and which isn't, they are all in one group...it can be confusing sometimes.

Believe me, I've had a nightmare of a time with FRED2Open...

We're going to pick the features that we want, find a stable build, and stick with it for BWO.

Sure TBP and Machina Terra will most likely have newer, fancier builds by the time they're done but ours will be tailored for what we need.

Well, i look forward to it, but the suspense is killing me. :/

Don't worry, Hellraiser.  After a few years, the suspense will, in fact, kill you, leaving a soulless shell, animated only by the forces of hatred and malice.  ;)

Kinda like Darth Sion, but in our control instead of Kreia's ;)

Morbid thought which could also be in very bad taste: I wonder if any BWO fans have actually seriously died of old age during the wait?

Truthfully? It's very possible.

Probably more have died waiting for Machina Terra though, since we have at least a demo ;)
