I have never played FreeSpace 1 or Silent Threat  so where can I get them.
-
You're best grabbing the port and ST:Reborn when it's done, IMO.
-
hey i said not to get mad
-
Nobody did get mad....
Like he said, just scroll down to the FSPort board and you'll be good to go!
-
Aldo never got mad. He was just giving you a straight answer. The Freespace Port (http://www.3dap.com/hlp/hosted/fsport) is Freespace 1 ported to Freespace 2, with the original Silent Threat included. Silent Threat is already being redone by the Port team, so you should play that when it's done too.
-
no i thought imo was bad but thanks any way.
-
IMO is supposed to mean In My Opinion.
-
 :)
-
I actually played FS2 first, and hadn't even heard of Silent Threat. So it's not that unusual.
-
I did the same thing. I'd recieved FS2 as a gift for Christmas (my mother had absentmindedly picked it out in the shop and all the employees were like "Oooh, get that. It's a good one!" So she did. )
Naturally, I tracked down FS1 later.
-
Never played Silent Threat at all... heard it was rather bad.
-
It was a good idea badly executed. ST:R on the other hand should hopefully cure the second half of that. :)
-
I got FS2 first as well. In '98 I played the FS1 demo, loved it, but forgot the name. Bought FS2 in '99, never relaized the two were related. Tracked FS1 down about two years later.
And yea, just get the port, it's easier :)
-
I played FS1 Demo out of sheer bordeom (I actually didn't want to play it, thinking it was crap, but once I started the demo...oh my..:D)
Needles to say I got FS2 as soon as it got out and joined the community shortly after that.
-
When I first saw free Space when i was play Star Fighter you may not know of this game but it was good and i thought Star Fighter was better then FS2 untill i pop it in and started to play, I Had fell in love. I never beat the game of Star Fighter.
-
Frankly, I was looking for info on Descent 3 when I found this strange site about a game called Descent: FreeSpace.
Thought it wasn't worth the time....
Got curious....
Downloaded demo....
Oh my.....
Picked up a copy of Freespace 1+Silent Threat for $3 on ebay. Then immediately followed up with getting FS2 for $100 a Christmas or two ago.
*Snickers at the poor fool whom he outbid*
*Realizes he could be reading this.*
Eh, better luck next time.
[back on topic] My life was never the same again. Beware, once you finish playing you may become tempted to mod. It'll start at tabling, then texturing, then modeling, and then you will be sucked into the infinite vortex of non-time that is FreeSpace Modding. :drevil:
BTW, Beware of Headz!:headz:

in the mid-late '90s I was really into space sims and Star Wars, so naturally i wanted another Star Wars game, but in '98/'99(I was 9 or 10) I got a 'game my mom picked up in a bargain bin for $10 knowing that I loved space sims, for christmas. It was no Star Wars, it was much better, FreeSpace and bonus Descent 2. I fell in love and I had to get FS2 and searched all over for it, with no luck bettergot it the next christmas, w00t!. That's my story on how I got into to FS...and about a year ago I searched the internet for a forum for this game I thought was dead and discovered HLP...and now I need to get ST...
-
Spam to this post but can any body tell how to speed up ships like the Destroyers from 15 to 25 or more.

Freespace: Darkness rising came bundled with my old XTPS T450 Dell (my first computer :) ) I played in back in '98 forgot about it for about for 4 years, picked up the disc again in early '04 stared playing, fell in love instantly, at that time the Interplay store was still up but I didn't have a Credit Card and couldn't get my dad to write a check. Later that year when I was on my Ebay spree (selling not buying) decided to type 'Freespace' into the search bar and found FS2 and the FS1 battle pack, I bought FS2 first and the battle pack later. Then while searching on yahoo at school I typed in Freespace and came across Karajorma's freespace FAQ, went home later that evening typed it in again and looked at the turreting toutorial having no idea what I was looking at, while I was looking at that I searched the word Freespace again and came across HLP and was surprised to see a site about freespace that was updated recently found the forums, joined, asked how to get Truespace for the turreting tutorial and the rest is history.
That's one of the few events in life I can remember in detail. :D
-
And since it all happened this year, you should. :p
-
Why do you need them sped up?
If you must, search for "Velocity mod" and hope you find a link that's actually active.
-
or just edit the tables.
-
or just edit the tables.
See, I told you.
Anyway, he's right, just extract the tables with VPview, and edit them with Notepad.
-
i'm pretty mad at you, we could duel at dawn. two steps, sledgehammers, fight till death okay
-
That sounds like the best duel ever.
-
I got FS1 bundled witha joystick. I got FS2 soon after it came out (my system JUST met the minimum specs :D)
-
I played the FS1 demo, liked it. A friend of mine had freespace2, playing it on his 550mhz PC.. i was in awe, I had to have the game.
Unfortunately my lowly p166 was only good enough for Freespace1, So i bought FS1 with Silent Threat included, and finished them both. When i upgraded my PC eventually to 1Ghz, i borrowed FS2 and played it out.
Then i didnt play again about the game until i stumbled upon this site. not to say i didnt remember it, whenever people mentioned the "best games" or "space sims" i was always right there with freespace. and guess what, NOONE had ever heard of it.. i was shocked, and somewhat appalled.
-
Umm, does anyone notice that this has become another "How I got FS or FS2" topic.
