Thought it might be of note.

Well, I suppose it's better canceled then having them release it if it's as bad as they say.
-
Depends if it is bad, though. If they have a contract which allows them to cancel the game & recover expenses based on their assessment of the game, then it's also a get-out clause of taking a risk in terms of release expenditure, etc.
-
*shudder*
All the better. I've never found any game by JoWood to be worth the plastic it was wrapped in.
-
so... I don't supose that stargate mod that got shut down can get back to work now?
-
My question is why weren't they developing it for next-gen consoles to begin with?
Even with the Unreal Warfare engine liscened they could mod it to be almost on-par with UE3.0. Tribes: Vengeance added in some nice physics, normal mapping, etc. making it an Unreal 2.5 engine for all intents and purposes. (and the lighting tweaks they made are perfect for BioShock)
-
Ha. This is rich. These asshats close down the SG Mod for their game (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,32157.0.html), and then don't even finish it?
Morons.

I'd like to see the hard-done-by Fans rise up and stike back at this False God; MGM! Every Stargate fan out there should wire a few bucks to one of my Swiss Bank Accounts, and i'll literally buy Stargate out from under their snooty noses!! :thepimp:
-
The graphics did look pretty crappy in the trailer.
-
Didn't they shut down a mod because of this game?
-
*bangs head against wall*
-
MGM are retards :/

Was this to be on par with the "game" that Te'lc was trapped in for that episode? It looked pretty cool.
-
They must have realized the mod was better then the game...
-
Well, at least they realized that they'd be lynched by the fans if they released a crappy game, so hopefully we'll get something good out of the franchize.
-
Incidentally, whatever happened to the UT2004 mod?
-
According to JoWooD they are still maintaining the rights and searching for another developer. This won't be as cataclysmic as some cases, since the game is built on top of another game engine, so it's only content/story that needs work, at least they won't have to work their way through the C++ of an entire game for another company to take up the torch.
That said, yes, I would say the chances are that the game was cancelled because what they were seeing did not match up to what they had seen of the Mod. I've seen some JoWooD games, it'd have to be REALLY crap for them not to release it.
Edit : Well, iirc, they did Gothic, which was a good game, but mostly it's mediocre stuff ;)
