Title: What does it mean?
Post by: Singh on August 10, 2005, 06:51:28 am
Anyone wonder....when listening to some of the FS2 Music (end_part1 and FS2 Cinema in particular), what some of the phrases sung there mean? From what I can hear, it sounds something like "mano sevi - wah pah yah or something like (and yes, I know, my hearing sucks and so does my latin spelling obviously). It's been bugging me for a while now, to the point where I've posted and am asking for some help or answers.

Anyone else ever wonder this, or am I the only madhat in this place? :/

The one you're prominently hearing would be "Agnus Dei" -- Latin for "Lamb of God", a traditional Roman Catholic term for Jesus Christ.

In FS2_Cinema, you hear: "Agnus Dei...Hallelujah, hallelujah..." I can't remember what's at the end, but that's what it is. As for the ending music, I'm not quite sure.

The first part of end part1 I think means "hand of the Savior."  Other than that I can't get a good feel for what their saying.

Sounds like something out of a Catholic High Mass...

LOL I suspect those voices were taken from a samples disc somewhere, and if you look for choir voices on sample discs, you are usually either going to get Latin/Church choirs or Benedictine chants :) They probably just used what was available ;)

Ironically enough, the band "Lamb of God" is probably the furthest thing possible from a church choir...

*decides not to go off on a tangent*

If that much is true, it could prove a hunch that the music may just have some connection with the story itself....

hmm...

*goes thinking.

They probably just wanted something that sounded epic

The original substitle for FS2 was 'Exodus', incidentally; hence the biblical names of the music tracks.

*Singh gives nuclear an idea*

*nuclear goes off to form theories regarding the music/storyline connections*

Exactly. I don't think the music was selected just because it was good - there has to be a reason for it, and the translation just fits too damn conveniently to the plotline....

willl post later.
