I just got done modeling this baby, and I was going for an Erinyes Mark II feel. And before you say it, yes, I realize I have plenty of polies with which to model guns and things, I just want to show off the hull.

Well, opinions, congrats, offers to texture? (Seriously, I said it as a joke, but if you don't have anything to do it would be much obliged as I hate, I repeat and emphasize, hate Mapping and Greebling, for I have no artistic talent.)
-
Doesn't look too bad. The guns look more like skis than weapons though.
IIRC, the TVWP is already using the Atropos name, although I doubt this'd be an issue with them.
-
It's like it has two Bentusi ships for engine pods.
-
That's nice but that's nowhere near what I imagine an mk2 would look like.
It does look like a prototype version of the regular Erinyes though.
-
No offense, but all you did is change the clothespins on the sides of the original Erinyes. You need more variation to the primary hull and cockpit to even call it a Mk II.
-
@StratComm: Chill. The reason the Clothespins were changed is because of structural changes necessary to the plotline of a campaign that I'm going to get around too. It's more of an Erinyes 1.5. Besides, I just finished the *gasp* PRELIMINARY MODEL *end gasp*. Give me a little time to work up the courage to tackle the primary hull, I just got the damn engine pods done without a glitch. ****, not everyone can put out a complete model one day after it pops into their head. Jeez.
@BlackDove: That's an interesting idea. From henceforth it shall be the Erinyes 1.5! Not quite a mark II, but certainly closer.
@Solatar: Yeah, I'm going to try to do something about those to make them look more "gunnish."
@redsniper: I have no clue who the Bentusi are but I assume what you said is a good thing ;).
P.S. StratComm, don't bother saying "no offense", it just tells the other person you're going to offend them before you even say what you have to say.
-
No offense but I don't like it. That's prolly since I never liked the Erynies desing - clothespin is right.
anyway, it's only me so feel free to ignoe me :D
-
*proceeds to ignore TrashMan*
Will post more update pics in the morning. I need sleep.
-
I semi think the mapping of the this newer model should be a little lighter than its predessor, (or however you spell that). Tis just an idea, but I think it might help it out a little.
-
Calm down dude. ;) No-one here's been offensive - Stratt was giving a suggestion on how to improve it, and it's a good suggestion - which as a preliminary WIP is exactly what you need to take it all the way to awesomeness. :)
My own is similar: you've made a good solid start on the shape ('specially the outline) - the side peg replacements do indeed have that nice Mk II sleekness to them, and now the rest of it needs to catch up - since it's obviously using the old ones inner sections.
Next steps i'd suggest would be to extend and smooth out the cockpit and gun areas of the nose, and to remove the 'sudden end' of the two lower ports (most visible in the third pic). From there you could add hull extrusion details a lot like Nico's HTL Perseus has - modeling in chunks of hull plates, and after that i'd say look into detailing and smoothing up [V]s not-particularly-intuitive inner sections, greeble up the engines and you'd be well on the way to a brilliant Mk II rendition. :D
-
predessor
Predecessor, but that's ok.:D
Yeah, I'm working on smoothing out the main body, it's fighting me all the way though.
In the process of smoothing out the backend. The Gun things on the bottom are a little annoying though. I just can't find a way to incorporate the back end so it looks like the barrels originate from the fighters hull instead of looking pasted on.
@Strat: Sorry about getting snippy yesterday, I was a little pissed thanks to my new chemistry class. I mean honestly, who assigns work BEFORE school even starts?:wtf:
So disregard my perturbed comments as the ravings of a PO'd teenager.

Oh it's no problem. I've dealt with that summer work crap for longer than I care to remember, but thankfully it's not been an issue in college. Anyway, I wasn't sure whether this represented an early WIP or a near-finished work, so I just thought I needed to mention it. Since you are working on the body, I'd suggest getting creative with the cockpit, since it's an Erinyes trademark to a certain extent. I'm going to suggest making it less constrained by girders and braces and more open, while still maintaining the arrogant feel of that little forward window. Take it or leave it, it's your WIP, but that's how I see that improving. Make the cockpit moddeled ;7
-
Oh, yes, I never liked all that clutter. One thing I never understood about the original.
No more than three crossbraces, the frontmost of which will give my "arrogant little window."
I think that I may just texture the cockpit though. Leave actually MAKING them to the pros. I don't think I'm ready for that frustration yet.
-
All right, update. But with this comes a question.
Here's after the Nose Job.

Using the pictures prior to this post, which nose\cockpit structure looks better? Personally, I kind of think the old nose may have been better, but I'd like a little more input.
-
How about a design similar to the Space Shuttle nose? I have always liked how the shuttle looked, it might be something to comsider.
-
Drop the Erinyes Mk2 pretext and just go with the flow.
-
I'm scrapping the inner section. it served its purpose for allowing me to make the engines, but I want a more unique feel. Don't know when I'll be able to post more pics but I'm sure you'll all have your breath held in anticipation.
*Starts timer*
:D
-
How about cross Herc2, with Erinyes and Loki? You get smoothed engine pods, with Erinyes proportions and the pod separation effect and coolish nose of the Loki.

That's a Bentusi ship. It looks like you took a couple and stretched them out for your engine pods.
-
[disclaimer] No Bentusi ships were harmed in the making of this fighter[/disclaimer]
When you're right, you're right.
@TP: I was thinking of going with keeping the Erinyes proportions, but making the fuselage ovoid (from a side perspective), keeping the direct fusing of engine thingy to fuselage, and having the guns stick out of a small "pouch," if you will, on the bottom. I've never liked the Loki nose though. Something about the sudden termination and the little goatee thingy gets on my nerves.
However, If it comes down to what I want and what I can do, I'll probably have to go with the Loki angle.
-
I finally fashioned a fuselage that I like.
1334 polies:

I might model a cockpit, I might not, I'm not sure how the glass thing works and I don't feel like texturing any more than I have to.
Now for the most annoying part: Those blasted belly guns. I do want to keep those. Unfortunately, they'll have to be made from scratch which I'm not looking forward to.
At least I have plenty of polies to play around with...
-
look on the bright side, it looks absolutely nothing like a penis
...
*shifty eyes*
*hides*
(slips note under door, note reads: I think it looks cool, especially the new nose, do something with the back of the body to make it more interesting, maybe you could cut holes in the sides of the side-pods to make it more like erinyes)
-
I've got an idea for you to consider. Extend the engine pods out away from the main body a little, and create a sort of wing that the engine pods are attached to. It would still keep the overall profile of the Eyrines, but at the same token also give it more of a new look, so it doesn't look like a replica of the same ship.

Well, I won't need to consider the name GTF Phalus now will I?;)
Oh, by the way, sigged.

That would give it a more Loki-ish look, but I may do that because I'm having trouble finding a place to mount the staple Erinyes "Uber-Guns" on the main fuselage.
-
great, now i have penis-related quotes in the sigs of two different people
maybe you can put the uberguns on either side of the cockpit, between the pod and the body, but still have the pod and the body flush against each other,

Well, I have a lot more freedom to experiment because now, I just dicovered, I have a hole in the connecting mesh of the fuselage and engines,:hopping: so now, I get to redesign the connection all over again.:hopping:
I'll try out some of your suggestions and post some of the more successful ones.
