Title: Fecking Multiplayer
Post by: karajorma on August 10, 2005, 03:40:00 pm
Alright can anyone tell me what's going on here?

I'm playing about with a TvT multiplayer mission and somehow Alpha wing have managed to get Zeta 1 listed as their leader.

It's probably no biggie but it means that FRED complains every time I save the mission and I have no idea what FS2 will do cause I haven't tested it.

Has anyone run into this bug before?

Yep. Won't let me disband the wing and it repeatedly gives me an error "This wing name is already being used by another wing. Press okay to  restore the old name" whenever I look at any of the ships in Alpha wing in the ships editor.

Doesn't really matter anyway cause I took a look at :v:'s missions and they all have this bug. It must be systematic in TvT missions.

yeah, but it's probably fine in-game though.

Considering that FS2 is seven years old and I've never heard that multiplayer TvT is broken that#s probably true :D

This might have something to do with my custom wing name code.

Are you using SCP?  What version of FRED and FSO?

Try swiching to Single player. Save. Then switch back to Multiplayer again. Of course make a backup copy.

Latest version of FRED. Haven't tried it in FS2_Open.

I'd only spent about 20 minutes on the mission so I simply rebuilt it. That got rid of the error on saving but the other one remained. Seeing as how it looks like every single mission I've opened has the exact same thing I don't think it's a problem. If you want to check it try extracting MT-01.fs2 and checking who's the leader of Alpha wing.

But the latest version of FRED probably has my special wing name code.  I'd bet it doesn't happen in retail.

Mantis it, if you please. :)

I'm starting to get the feeling that none of the FS2_Open SEXPs work in multiplayer actually. Change-Ship-Class certainly doesn't (Only the host sees the change!).

I'll try out a few more though.

That sounds reasonable, since I added most of the sexps and I don't do multiplayer. :)

It sounds like only the host machine executes the sexps.  Maybe the client machines simply receive ship coordinates and info, doing no calculation of their own.

I think that's probably likely. There are a whole host of things client machines don't do.

Does make you wonder exactly what is used from the mission file.
