Title: Model Problems
Post by: Remo on August 17, 2005, 09:13:49 am
Hello, I'm a newb to the whole modifying of freespace 2, I used to download only campaigns... but I saw the screenshots of the first release and I thought, lets give it a try. So, I download this huge mod, I install it, and run it. well the main screen was already different so that all was good. so, I start the campaign.

I expected this new ships and weapons, but instead of that, everyone was flying the same ship, the bat-like fighter... even the big ship I am supposed to defend is that bat-like fighter.. elyuess or something it is called...

anyways, does anyone knows how I can actually see the new models?

(I have once had a campaign that installed a new fighter as well, that one was also displayed as that bat-like thing. also new weapons don't appear, it just says that I don't have any weapons...)

plz help me! :(

I don't have Inferno, so I can't give specifics, but when you have the Ulysses appearing it means the game can't find the model referenced in the mission, so it switches to the default.

Check where you've put everything in the right place, as in the readme.  Sorry I can't give anything more specific than that.

Sounds like it's not reading the ships.tbl.

Try these:

1. If using FS2 Retail make sure the VP files were installed into your root FS2 directory, and that you have no other mods installed.

2. If using FS Open, make sure you have your mod directory set up correctly and that you have the SCP patch

3. Try making a new pilot, this fixes a lot of those type of problems especially with FS2 retail.

4. Make sure you have the Inferno campaign selected and not the FS2 one in the campaign room.

Try some of those and see if that fixes the problem.

Doesn't the installer put everything into the right place?

(and if it doesn't, where can I find those models and where to put them in :P )

The installer should install INF_Main.vp into C:\Games\Freespace2 which is the default install directory for FS2. If you changed the FS2 install directory but didn't change it during the INF install it will be in that directory on its own and needs to be moved to the directory FS2 is in.

the INF_main.vp is in the correct freespace 2 folder....

so that can't be the problem... :S

Hmm check if you have any table files anywhere within the FS2 directory. If you do delete them.

If you don't I'd suggest getting a VP extraction program such as VP View and extract all the tables from the Inferno VP file to the data\tables directory.

Looks like you can get VP View here:
http://www.sectorgame.com/f2s/files/tools.php
You want the FSKIT 1.0 02D and the DDL Pack if they don't work.

If your using retail then no, you only need to select the campaign in the campaign room.
