Post by: Itsara on August 09, 2001, 02:14:00 pm
I was just wondering what programs are needed to make them?  I would like to start to make them.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

for rendering, I must say LW is better. 3DSmax is more dedicated to real time models, it's much more easy and quick to use, but the renderer is really not as good as LW one (the trend tends to disappear, but for now it's still true)

Lightwaves built in renderer is better than MAXs...but stick the mentalray connection onto max and that argument just doesnt work anymore.

If you're after trial versions, go to the company websites.
 http://www.discreet.com ("http://www.discreet.com")  http://aw.sgi.com ("http://aw.sgi.com")  http://www.newtek.com ("http://www.newtek.com")  http://www.softimage.com ("http://www.softimage.com")

Most 3D houses will drop their pants to get you to buy their software, and almost all will provide you a demo disk free of charge (none of which are crackable, incidentally)

I'd recommend you try softimage or maya, even though the full versions cost £7000+ you will find them much more powerful and elegant to use.

I saw LightWave, but i didnt see a demo or trial version, so i went to see how much it was and it was $1500!!!!!!  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/eek.gif)  What the ****, why is it so much?  Is there somewhere on that site where i could get a trial version?  Same for 3D Max Studios, no trial.

Don't start arguments.

Anyway, all this talk of 3DS and LW - I wonder when someone will have the Brazil RE to test out. That looks Hella sweet.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
