Title: Downloading FS2
Post by: YanksFan4Ever77 on August 23, 2005, 01:56:12 pm
Hello FS2 Community

Is there a place where I can download the three ISO disks for FS2? Freespacezone.com isn't working, HOTU doesn't work (and I don't want to download there), so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hopefully.  I've been searching what you've been searching for for a while.  You could try a torrent, although I haven't had much luck myself.

It will be working soon (in a couple weeks?).  At least that is what Snipes told me. (evilones.net)  Just wait it out or try the torrent.

I have an FTP server up, and I wouldnt have a problem letting you get the 3 ISO images, as long as you know what ur doin (oh btw, I got those 3 ISO images from Freespacezone.com).  I juss gotta figure out how to let people through my router straight to my FTP server on my computer.  If not, I'll make you a torrent file of those exact files from freespacezone.com and you can download that.

Oh and if any of u guys know how to let people through a router to a computer to access an FTP server, please let me know.  Ill do it right away!!!

It's pretty much as simple as forwarding ports 21 most likely but if that doesn't work or if you want a better guide, take a looksee if your router is listed on PortForwards.com (http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm)

what exactly does a static IP do?  is it like so that you can simulate NOT being connected to a router even though you ARE connected to the router?

Post by: karajorma on August 28, 2005, 02:13:39 pm
A static IP means that your computer decided which IP it had. Most routers come with DHCP which means that they can be set up to tell your computer which IP address it has.

If you're using something like FTP it's a good idea to set up a static IP address for your computer so that it always has the same IP address. You can either configure this on your router (By reserving an IP address) or from control panel and then setting up your IP address to the desired choice.

Go to start>Run>Type cmd
In the command prompt type Ipconfig \ all

(For win 98 just type winipcfg into the start>run option).

If the output tells you that you have DHCP enabled you can use the MAC address displayed to reserve an address. All you then have to do is forwards your FTP to that address.

If you still need help I'm more than willing to explain in more detail :)

Check to see if the FTP server you're using has bandwidth throttling options.

(You ought to check your ISPs terms and conditions too actually. Some get a bit annoyed if you try to set up a 24/7 FTP server).

Well, since I had scratches on my old CDs that made them useless, I tried the torrent from Freespacezone.com.
Even though this is a very old thread, let me mention that CD2 in this torrent has a wrong filesystem and neither can be mounted nor burned. The other stuff works fine, it's just CD2.

It's also curious, that it's called FREESPACE2_DISC2.ISO while the other ones are called
Freespace_2_(1999).CD(1 or 3).ChAoScReW.ShareReactor.ISO. :wtf:

With this exception, the torrent has more than 10 seeders and is fast enough (26hours for 2.4GB?).

From the FreeSpace 2 Download Links sticky:

I've uploaded all three retail CDs (in .iso format!) to www.mydatabus.com. I had to break the .zip file up into 9 parts, so if your Unzip program has a hard time with them, download 7zip (http://www.7-zip.org) and it should work fine.

FreeSpace 2 ISOs and Related files:
ISO Images Part 1 (250 MB) (http://"http://www.mydatabus.com/2z/tznvy.pbz/na.enwa/FS2.zip.001")
ISO Images Part 2 (250 MB) (http://"http://www.mydatabus.com/2z/tznvy.pbz/na.enwa/FS2.zip.002")
ISO Images Part 3 (250 MB) (http://"http://www.mydatabus.com/2z/tznvy.pbz/na.enwa/FS2.zip.003")
ISO Images Part 4 (250 MB) (http://"http://www.mydatabus.com/2z/tznvy.pbz/na.enwa/FS2.zip.004")
ISO Images Part 5 (250 MB) (http://"http://www.mydatabus.com/2z/tznvy.pbz/na.enwa/FS2.zip.005")
ISO Images Part 6 (250 MB) (http://"http://www.mydatabus.com/2z/tznvy.pbz/na.enwa/FS2.zip.006")
ISO Images Part 7 (250 MB) (http://"http://www.mydatabus.com/2z/tznvy.pbz/na.enwa/FS2.zip.007")
ISO Images Part 8 (250 MB) (http://"http://www.mydatabus.com/2z/tznvy.pbz/na.enwa/FS2.zip.008")
ISO Images Part 9 (61.17 MB) (http://"http://www.mydatabus.com/2z/tznvy.pbz/na.enwa/FS2.zip.009")
FreeSpace 2 Patch (patches to version 1.2) (http://"http://www.mydatabus.com/2z/tznvy.pbz/na.enwa/fs21x-12.exe")
Patch that removes the squelching noise that plays when you talk in Multiplayer (http://"http://www.mydatabus.com/2z/tznvy.pbz/na.enwa/FS2VoicePatch.exe")

I think Swantz has them available for download.

EDIT: Yup. http://www.nukelol.com/fs/

I'll have to remove it as soon as he asks, thought, but it is a public accessible site, so I don't think he will.

He has. I already downloaded Disc2 from his page. The link was in the sticky thread, so he seems not to mind. I first used the torrent just because I didn't want to overload someones bandwidth. But this doesn't change the fact, that CD2 in the torrent is corrupted somehow.

I still search for the d***ed CUE file, because Swantz just provides the BIN part. Some people haven't heared from the ISO format, yet, don't they? I wonder if I can use the Freespace2_2 - prototype24.cue that I found elsewhere, if I just rename the BIN. There's no evidence that they fit together. I also wonder why these new images are so big. My old CD2 is about 675MB not 782,4MB. :wtf:

If I have all bits and pieces together and they work for me, I'm going to open a new torrent.

Next time if you are having problems with my site, contact me about it. HLP has no knowlege about its functionality, nor do they know much about it. My site should have worked for you. Ill double check the mirrors right now but last time i checked it was in good working order.

>Ok i just checked it and you are right, my webhost for freespacezone.net canceled my account because i forgot to pay them for 3 months and another persons mirror that allowed me to put on my site is not functional either. Sorry for the inconveniece. The downloads will be functional again within a few days.

I've no problem with your site, I got what I tried to download. Or do you mean the OP (his post is much older than 3 months )?
As long as you are not in charge for the torrent, I don't blame you for anything. Also I send a mail to your gmail-account (if you host freespacezone.com not .net), in which I told you that something is wrong with the torrents CD2. It doesn't matter if your download works or not, cause you're not the only seeder of the torrent. In addition to this I only wanted to give a hint to HLP that people maybe need to get their 2nd CD elsewhere. Because some people go crazy if something doesn't work when they try it the first time.
Sorry.

Mmh, the site does still respond. And the downloads work. Has to be some kind of "ghost-site".
The mail I send, did you receive it or not?

[DW]-Hunter can you answer to the question, why this new image of Disc2 is about 100MB bigger than the original one? Would just be nice to know.

but the cd is also game of the year edition so that also could be the cause.

You mean the 782,4MB fit on a 700MB CD-R? Weird.
Since you're not ready yet, a cue file that includes this lines:
---
FILE "disc2.bin" BINARY

    TRACK 01 MODE2/2352
      INDEX 01 00:00:00
---
would work with a disc2.bin properly?
Or do it has to include also this
---
REM SESSION 01        ; Not supported by other applications (*)

      REM MSF: 00:00:00 = LBA: 0

REM (*) SESSION directives are unfortunately not properly supported
REM     'out there'.  IsoBuster however supports them !
---
stuff? IsoBuster is for Windows only, you know. I don't use this OS for years and I'm so glad that someone told me about fs_open...

well sadly retail only works on Windows. But you can still use the retail files with the use of the open build. Also, I dont know where you got the idea that the cd would not fit on the cd, the size of the bin is going to be larger then whats burned to the cd, if your burning program says its too big, I suggest getting a better burning program. I recommend NTI CDMaker myself, runs great and it rips games no problem. I always found nero to be a pain in the ass.

I know. Well, fs_open was already running before I had a harddisk crash. It really stands out. After I set up my new system I recognized that not all data on my CDs were readable. Cause this mess I've bothered you anyway.

So does such a cue sheet work or not. AFAIK it seems not to give any difference between cue, as long as they are not for a audio cd with more than one track.

im not sure il check it out later, but the cue files are now included into the rar files, so for those who have posted about downloading from freespacezone, now is the time to fix that comment about the cue files.

lol, it may work but still like 50 different threads say my sites files dont have cue files, and the main ones that are mainly read need to be corrected.
