Rosamund Pike slightly reminds me of the hot girl at CompUSA.

I WAS 2 SECONDS AWAY FROM SAYING "OLD NEWS IS SO EXCITING!"
then i saw the CHAINSAW..........................................
W00T!
-
From the looks I think it's gonna be a great idea executed poorly...... I'm gonna be one of the first to see it in other words :D.
Even if it sucks, anything DooM related (other than '95 .WADs) kicks some serious ASS!!!
-
I'm looking forward to seeing it.
-
The first-person view is a nice touch, a tribute to the game, but if it's overused, it will look cheap. It should only be used for a sequence or two. I'm still going to wait for the DVD, good idea gone horribly wrong. Hey, that gives me an idea. ^_^
-
I've either said it before or I heard it before: Doom isn't Doom without hell and demons. The human genome stuff is just garbage.
-
The Yahoo! site mentioned that a portal would need to be closed... Perhaps there still is hell and demons with Human Genome stuff tossed in 'cause right now it's hot stuff.
-
Knowing hollywood and my sudden brainwaves, the Genome **** is gonna lead ppl to know where Hells Portal is, and they (Marines) have to close it.
-
After recently playing through Doom 3 again, I realized that they actually mention working on the genome in the monster museum, albeit comparing imp DNA to human DNA. However it is one of the most obscure pieces of info in the game.

[It will be another train wreck along the lines of AvP and Matrix Revolutions. --PsychicDescenter]

The first person looked 'too' gameish for my tastes. It looks interesting in a brainless popcorn consuming kind of way, which isn't always a bad thing ;)
-
could be worse
"Wing Commander Movie"

That movie had good music.
At least I liked the theme song the first 150 times I listened to it. Gotten a bit old now, but it's still good. :p

Meh... looks like it's gonna be an action-focused slugfest, which keeps it close to the game, but will probably fail as a movie.
IMHO, an interesting approach to a DOOM3 adaption would be to keep the whole movie in 1st persion view....think about it.
The audience only gets what the protagonist sees and hears. You'd hear your heart pumping and the heavy breathing when running away in panic from some hellish nightmare, of which you only saw a glimpse when it leaped out of the shadows.
We'd only see the protagonists face in the bathroom mirror (including the the vision of his zombie-self).
It would be hard to keep it interesting for 90 minutes, and you'd need:
a) a very good director
b) an excellent soundtrack, together with all the creepy noises from hell in true dolby surround (especially the mad laughter)
c) concentrate on suspense, not action (think "Alien"), let the viewer imgaine a lot the horrible things that might be lurking in dark corners, instead of showing everything
d) include the trip to hell
e) to only watch it alone in a dark room (like all good horror movies)
Thinking about it, this might work best as a short movie for a 3D cinema, including an anti-happy end where you get shred to pieces....

The First person mode brought up memories of House of the Dead.
On the plus, it looks like they got the Pinky Demon's look right, though, so bravo.
-
The thing that strikes me is that for years they have been working on technology in graphics capable of making computer games look like movies. And now they finally get close, the movies start trying to look like computer games. It's ironic really ;)
-
is that in-game stuff you're seeing at some points? just noticed that (was pointed out to me by someone). there are parts where he turnsa corner (showing from a 1st person view), and the doors, smoke, etc. look just like they're from the game.
or are they just trying to make those parts as game-like as possible?
-
I think it's as game-like as possible, it was light enough that I could actually see further than 2 feet in front of the marines' nose, which suggests it isn't real in-game footage ;)
Edit : Can I just add that I've just bought Resurection of Evil and it is a lot better than the original for 'Doom-ness', but the story sort of over-compensates for Doom 3's long winded build-up by starting too quickly. That said, it 'felt' more like Doom 1&2 than the original 3 did.
-
I've never played so much as a second of Doom, but that trailer looked somewhat better than I expected. That first-person view could be a cool idea if it's done right.
-
It looks aweful. That said, one of the girls I know said she actually wants to see it, so I may catch it after all.

The sad part is that they'll probably make a FPS from the movie license. So then we have DOOM: The Movie: The Game. It'll be kind of like how they made the Batman cartoon, then made the batman cartoon comic books.
-
Resurrection of Evil was more of an action game than a "horror" (I use that term lightly) game Doom 3 was. And where the hell was the flashlight on the gun?!
back on topic...the first-person sequence is pretty cool except for the fact that it's a fricken G36C and not a Doom weapon. And the BFG fires blue energy, qu'est-ce que f*ck?
btw, the G36 is cool, but Doom weapons are so much cooler and at the very least, way more appropriate.
-
The G36(c especially) kicks much booty.

Maybe that was the Plasma Rifle, not the BFG...

Also, I simply downloaded a mod called Duct Tape, and hey presto, I have torches strapped to my Machine and Shotguns :)
-
The Duct Tape mod is essential to play the game. Plus, come on now, it just makes sense. Whoever came up with the bright idea (pardon the pun, it was not intentional) of forcing you to chose between flashlight and weapon needs to be shot, particularly when one considers standard modern military training on close quarters combat...
-
The real stupid thing is the fact that the bullet flashes don't light up the rooms, I mean the game has all of these uber lighitng effects but they forget one they had in the original DooMs.
-
Doesn't look AS bad now...the first person view is kind of new and original.
