My FAQ's general Freespace page has links to three sites offering torrents for the game.

If you can use BitTorrent that should help.

And there's always the Port, too.

Sorry Karajorma, I don't use BitTorrent for a varitey of reasons.

What I'm really looking for is the full version, NOT the OEM. I would request the disks to be in ISO format. Thanks.

I wouldn't discuss downloading FS1, just to be on the safe side. It would be considered warez, as FS1 is not considered abandoneware like FS2 (it is basically, but in the books it's not).

I own Fs1, I just can't find the disks. I do not pirate, Unknown Target. :)

I wish it were that easy. I can't play the port and multiplayer at the same time!

If that's your only problem with it then it's easily fixed. Are you running SCP or just retail? (Solution is different depending on which you're running).

That said according to Amazon you can get FS1 VERY cheap (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/offering/list/-/B000058AJL/all/102-1780968-2937734)

Actually, with the port you'd have a better change of playing a multiplayer game.

PXO doesn's exist ATM, so the only thing you can do with fs1 is direct IP and LAN...

Oh, and if your reasons for not using bittorrent only involve not knowing how it works, I'd be happy to help you out. (though I guess you have other reasons)

I think Yanks was on about the fact that if he installs the port he'll get messages about using hacked tables or other oddities when using it with SCP. Like I said there are ways round both of those. I just need to know which one he uses :)

Well, multi player is buggy...especially for my brother. We both use Kazan's multiplayer code (3.6), the recommended build for multi. We are on 2 different computers in 2 different states.

The main bugs we encounter are:

-When the host hits "lock", freespace boots back to the desktop
-If magically it doesn't boot back, we can't select our ship.

Thanks for trying to help karajorma.

I personally would suggest either trying the very latest build you can download from the recent builds forum or this build (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,29087.0.html) which is probably the most popular SCP build for multiplayer at the moment as it's basically a bugfixed 3.6.5.

Still not sure why you're saying you can't play multiplayer with the port present though. All you have to do is make a folder in your Freespace2 folder called FS1Port and stick the port in there. When you want to play the port press select mod in the launcher and choose the FS1Port folder. When you want to play multiplayer simply press no mod.
