Well, in exactly one week, I go back to school. I can hardly wait (I hate it here) though there have been a couple of disappointments:
Tuition, fees, etc. went up so much (approximately 20%) since I last attended that I had to get a loan. My dad controls all the money. He hates asking for help, and refuses to give me the information I require to apply for federal aid. He even goes as far as hiding the tax documents. It's ridiculous! He's a federal employee; I should be able to get some sort of aid, but no, I had to apply for a loan. Interest is 3%, so that's not bad. My mom wasn't really any help in getting the information I needed for the FAFSA either. This blind ignorance shall hang over their heads until the day they die. I will never forgive them for this. :hopping:
Now the icing on the cake. I am a senior as of this semester. Seniors get to live in the townhouses with a room of their own and three other roommates. When they were first built, there was a rule you could only live there for two semesters, so everyone had an equal chance of living there, but apparently, they did away with this rule, and now I'll never get to stay there. No worries, there's still the apartments, which aren't as nice, but basically offer the same features.
I had to email the housing coordinator or whatever the hell she's called, cause they didn't assign me housing, and it was two weeks till the start of the semester. My school is notorious for letting you know about housing last minute. I found out I've been stuck in a suite with three other people. >.< I am not pleased. There is a chance I could be moved last minute if something higher on my priority list opens, but I'm not holding my breath. I'd say I have a 10% chance of moving. I want some ****ing privacy! I'm a senior! I'm tired of living with people in the same room.
Ugh, just give me my ****ing degree already! A meteor should turn my school into a hot, smoldering crater. :hopping:
On the bright side, I won't be home. ^_^

...to prove to Dad that I'm not a fool.
I've got my lunch packed up. My boots tied tight. I hope I don't get in a fight...

Claim your self as a dependent next tax season. Although your dad might not like that.

I've been back in school since last week.
You suck.

Truly mature, Jetmech.

I just got to Stony Brook on Friday. I'm a freshman, so I'm confused as all hell right now.

My college semester starts on Wednesday. It's going to be much tougher than my last two, but it was unavoidable.
I live at home and commute, so I don't have to share my room with anyone and have no housing costs. :D This combined with state residency status and scholarships make a good combination as far as the money is concerned.

Ok, I'm starting to think you guys are assuming I'm trying to demean ES (based on your inabilities to fathom kidding around without the use of smilies :p). I'm not.

[color=66ff00]Sounds more like you haven't got the knack for it.

I believe the phrase you're looking for is "tu es irrumator" :p

I've been here since Wednesday, and I spent about 9 hours in a row yesterday helping freshmen get settled in the dorms. (If I hear, "How do I get online?" one more time, I'll flip out :p) All the upperclassmen moved back in today. I'm what's known at our school as a Russell Fellow. I work for the University of Delaware's Honors Program and live in the freshman honors housing. I'm basically a mentor to the freshmen, and I also get to organize programs for them throughout the year. This year should hopefully be a lot of fun. :)

Sounds like an RA.

It won't matter. I graduate this year...so long as everything goes to plan. :nervous:

You'll probably love your school, and I hope you do. You'll run into some problems, but you'll get accustomed to college life real fast. Get involved with some clubs and activites to meet people. If you're an introvert however, you're in for a real challenge, better see the school therapist.
The only other thing I have to say is don't hesitate to transfer if you're an unhappy customer. College is no different from a business, take it elsewhere if you hate it. Don't listen to your parents if they try to talk you into "giving it a chance." No, if you don't like it there, get the hell out immediately, else you wind up like me: stuck cause I have too many credits, finishing at a school I ****ing hate (and having to get a loan cause of my idiot parents)! Listen to your gut on that one, because no one should have to go through the **** I've been through.
It is ****ed up when some underclassmen get better housing then you.
Do any of you get a fall break, ie more time off than just Thanksgiving if you're in the US? We don't. That's why we start so late and have such a long winter break. It's stupid! It puts more stress on the students. We need a few days off during the semester, not just Thanksgiving.

Well, I've been in college for a year now and think it sucks ass because of the amount of work I get and the administrative hassles at the beginning of each semester. I'm certainly an introvert, but I can't see how that would really matter since I would still have just as much coursework. It might just be my major, although at least I get long breaks. Who cares though; I'm ready to work hard to get out of this crap in two more years and have good looking classes and grades on my transcript for graduate school admissions.
Is there really that big of a difference between the better universities, as far as the classes go?

That's also how it is here. I like it that way better actually; I've always preferred long work periods and long leisure periods. :D

I'm scared.. I've got that gut feeling that college is going to eat me alive. :blah:
-
Yeah I'm scared too. I haven't worked, since, well... junior year of high school. I'm hoping I can practice some self-discipline.
As for the social aspect of it, I'm really just depressed right now because I have so many perfectly good friends back home, and it pisses me off that I have to make new ones here. Thank heavens for AIM.

As I had to keep telling freshmen on Saturday, not really. We don't have any disciplinary powers, so the stupid crowd tends to not hate us as much as the RAs. :p
-
RAs? As in research assistants? I thought the RAs don't come into much contact with undergraduate students at all and only really work with professors.

RA==Resident Assistant.
