I'm thinking about getting it. Anyone out there played it?
-
I heard the last mission is a ***** and a half... cheesily hard.
-
My opinion? That game rocks!
The last level was very hard, and I did it only on the second difficulty. But if you're good, you can beat it. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
Multiplayer is fun, but half the battle is knowing how to set up your mech. And there tends to be no advantage with the smaller (faster) mechs, because someone else will pick you off while you run around that other big guy. So basically, it's get the biggest mech, load the best weapons, and duke it out. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
Still a very cool game though IMO.

I've played Mechcommander, and I always prefer the Mad Cat. It's still really good, right? Or have they improved the other mechs to much?
-
There's a MadCat Mk II that just totally kicks arse. That's probably my favorite.
It's a little bigger (90 tons. Biggest is 100 tons), but it's still got decent speed and all.

mmh, the small mechs are VERY dangerous... I played with very good pilots, they run around you, packing some GAUSS gun (or anything that hurts a lot), and they're so small they can run UNDER you and ruin your legs in a matter of seconds. One of the most oppular mech in MW4 is the Daishi.
Tha Last mission is really hard, yeah. A duel against a Daishi with high AI after having done such a difficult mission, that was overkill. And all that to see that the outro, compared to the intro cutscene, sux... damn (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
-
The games good, but IMO, the controls are very poor, especially compared with MW3. You just can't aim as well as you could before. Appart from that, the Intro is the best I've seen in any game and the graphics are superb. All I have to do now is turn my mech fast enough to see the enemy Daishi before it kills me...
-
My favorite part in MW4 is being in a small mech with Large Lasers on your arms... you can move sideways and use the hat switch to point your arms to the side and WHAM smash the dudes (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

The fear always controls our attitude, let us fear no more!
-
MechWarrior 4? I completed it. The last mission was very difficult to complete. After everything, you have to have a one on one duel with a Daishi with a difficult AI. Everyone knows the Daishi is the most heavily armed and armored Mech in the game. But if you are good at doing hit and run tactics, should be okay.
By the way, was there ever a repair bay in that mission? Some of my friends said there was one but I can't seem to find it. Anyone? Hints?
In MechWarrior 4, aim for the enemy Mech legs. The legs seem to go down pretty fast. When the Mech loses both legs, it explodes. Easy kill. The heavier Mechs' legs may need more pounding though.

No, there's no repair bay, I tried them all (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif)
mmh, I remember only one leg is enough. Anyway, if you're an hotshot, aim at the cockpit (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) 2 shots are enough (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
That would be cool if it could be modded, but I remember one of the guys that worked on the game it would be actually easier to make a true battlemech than making an user made one (sob)
-
After playing the demo I was all set to make this one of my all time favourite games when I found out....
....you can't skin the mechs yourself. What a bummer - a custom made mech skin centre on HLP would 0wn, but it just can't be done. Ah well (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif)

That's hella wrong. Just wander the net, you won't find new mechs, but you WILL find new skins...

Well, my cardboard mech is running fine in my garage....Damn. I might of bough MW4 once i upgraded me PC.
Can you mod MW3 to make new Mechs? Might be quite good once I get bored of modding FS2.
-
Damn! No repair bays!! Those things can really mean the difference between victory and defeat.

www.mektek.net ("http://www.mektek.net") has a skinning utility.
I play all the time, SSC_Inquisitor on the zone, or stop by http://forums.shatteredstar.com ("http://forums.shatteredstar.com") and look for our Mech 4 forum.

just to make new skins?

Now if there was a program that can convert any 3D format into the format that MechWarrior 4 uses, Thunder will kiss you and bring you home. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Yes, Thunder, many times over the last 2 years (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
Yes, just skins.
-
But skins are good!
I guess I just want to see what I can do with a more capable 3D Engine than Freespaces, both MW4 and IW2 are in my line of fire for some skinning now...

ICQ me, we'll talk (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Hey, there are repair bays in that last mission. You just have to back up to them, then shut your mech off (it's important that you back into it. Use your hat to look behind you to see where you're going)

the 2.0 beta patch breaks the skinning, so, be careful (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
Thanks for the heads up, I haven't bought the game yet (to busy and not enough money) but when I do I'll probably read the forums and stuff to learn all about it before I dive in heads first.

Has anyone noticed that the Mad Cat Mk. II is inferior to the original Mad Cat? Here's my reasoning:
1: Can't carry ER PPCs.
2: Slower than the original Mad Cat.
3: Armor is weak for size.
My Mad Cat X trashes the Mad Cat Mk. II. The ER PPCs and LRM20s rip through the Mk. II's armor, and the Mk. IIs jump jets do nothing to stop the missiles and PPCs from hitting. Not to mention my Mad Cat's armor is as strong as the Mk. IIs, and the Mk. II has limited ammo on the Gauss Rifles and they're using LRM5s. And note, this was an even battle, 4 Mad Cat Xs (3 Veterans and me) vs. 4 Mad Cat Mk. IIs in the Wave mission setup (Central Park) and none of the Mad Cat Xs were destroyed, even though mine took some light damage in the center torso from LRM5s.
Note: The Mad Cat X is a modified chassis created from the Mad Cat in the Mech Lab.

yeah, but anyway, the Daishi is better (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
