it depends, what's the context,

here I think it means "what the hell does this have to do with 600 people dieing"

I'm surprised I can even read the article.

As for what happened, I guess having shoddy bridges can cause something like this to occur.

It seems that a lot of Arab nouns have "al" in them. I just noticed with the bridge thing.

Yes, it's callused. But I guess I don't see much more that could be done except to build stronger bridges. I can't say that I feel too much for the people that died, specifically, because there's virtually a 0% chance that I knew any of them. I can say that I probably wish that it hadn't happened...because I would rather be able to say that I wished that it hadn't had to happen, for some good to have come out of it.

Nice how one report says 300 dead, and the other (FOX) says more than 700. :p

I also noticed that in the FOX article, it was Jesus who knocked over the bridge.

@Kosh

It was a stampede, the bridge didn't collapse unless I really missed something.  And considering reports say that someone shouted that there was a suicide bomber, I'm not surprised they reacted in that way.

@bobboau

I don't get it, "tempt fate"?

@Styxx

Another report said around 600+.  I'm guessing that either the initial reports didn't get everyone or the initial reports overestimated.

@Ford

Huh?

latest reports - 841 dead, over 340 injred..

The bridge is fine b.t.w. - people died becouse they were tampeled or pushed over the bride railing by the massses...

50 people die in London - it's all over the news for weeks or months.
750 people die in Baghdad - here's Joe with the weather.

It was a jab at FOX's tendency to lean in certain directions.

"Al" is "the" in Arabic. So it makes it a definite noun. :p
