Greets,
I've just downloaded the open source FS2 rar. I'd still be using my retail discs, but being rather well-used, they look like they've been through a grain thresher. Anyway, I'm playing the single player campaign, and on the 2nd mission, the first one involving the Iceni I believe, the game hiccuped and crashed, spitting out this table:
Error: Invalid ship class name.
In sexpression: ( when
( has-departed-delay 2 "Unknown NTF" )
( send-message
"#Command"
"High"
"Warp Out"
)
( tech-add-ships "NTF Iceni" )
)
(Error appears to be: NTF Iceni)
File:E:\Languages\Visual Studio Projects\Visual C++\fs2_open\code\Mission\MissionParse.cpp
Line: 4603

Any ideas? Thanks

Are you using any mods? I've seen one or two that do just change NTF to GTF or something in the tables, which would break the main campaign. It's a table issue though, since missing the Iceni model wouldn't hiccup until you actually tried to look in the techroom or the next mission. The "unknown NTF" is actually the NTF Boadacea, which is a different table entry and model.
-
I've installed Sol: A history, and Derelict, but I couldn't see how those would affect the Iceni model. If I remember right, Derelict is strictly post-Capella and SAH covers some of the NTF war, but never the Iceni.
-
Doesn't Sol: A History depend upon the Inferno TC?
Try removing that and see if it works.
Derelict may also replace the Iceni in favor of another ship.
-
Doesn't Derelict call it the Cypher or something?
Remove all of the mods (or better yet, put them in mod directories and use the launcher to select them when you want to use them) and it should work. I doubt the quality of your CDs had anything to do with it if they actually allowed you to install.
-
IIRC Derelict makes the soup with the Iceni.
Been far too long so I forgot though.
-
Yeah, Derelict turns the NTF Iceni into the GTFf Saphah, so you'll need to remove them if you want to play the main FS2 campaign.

Here's a tip for the future. NEVER install mods to either the Data or main FS2 folders unless you know for damn sure what you are doing. The only things you should ever put in the main folder are the new EXEs and the media VP files.
With FS2_Open all mods should go in a folder named after the mod (containing no spaces and no hyphens. Underscore is allowed however).
This enables you to choose the mod using the select mod button and prevents mods from crippling each other in the fashion you just witnessed. :)

I just removed and reinstalled the program, which cleared it right up. I'll remember the tip about folder naming for other mods. Guess I'll have to ask on the Derelict board if theres a way to install Derelict that doesn't pooch the main FS2 tables. Thanks a bunch :)
-
There's a derelict board?
Seriously though, setting things up so that Derelict doesn't mess up the retail campaign is a snap with the SCP. (If you're not using it I suggest you give it a try). Just create a folder named "derelict" and place the Derelict VP inside it. Then run the FSO launcher, hit "select mod", select that folder, and run the game. Then to go back to regular FS2, just hit "no mod" when launching the game.
-
If you've installed derelict using the installer it may also have put some table files in your Freespace2\Data\Tables folder. Move those to Derelict\Data\Tables.
Apart from that one hiccup with Derelict it's incredibly easy to prevent problems with mods screwing up other mods as long as you take care how you install them.

Hmmm, on the subject of the NTF Boadacea, mine seems to have masive holes in it...

Picture?
