I think the neb looks great.  Cool beams too.   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Kudos Kazan! And thx for the beam making lesson!  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

And there's no explosion from the beam hitting the Ravana.

Kazan: Particles would work wonders for the "explosion".  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

What would really make it look more like a big fight is if those big guns on top were firing.

Very nice. Though I think the background looks so good it takes the focus away from the action  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

A duel between a Ravana and a Hecate ain't much of a duel, more like slaughter. I think you know which one will be doing the slaughtering, and if you don't, then why are you here and not playin fs2?

As people have already pointed out theres room for improvement, and I don't understand the "Setekh" reference?

Cause he's making renders, I suppose.

Doesn't look too shabby, especially since that is part of a motion sequence. Less obvious about the lighting is that the Hecate should be very dark, contrasted against the star that is right behind it.

yup, and since the star is red, everthing should be red too. Is it possible to do that in TS, with an ambient light or something?

Yea, I usually wind up with blue all over the Nike when I do beam glows because I was an idiot who didn't know what he was doing, hehe  So, yea you can.

I explained my beam technique to him.. he shouldn't have that problem anymore

when I see a star with a white core and a red halo, to me it looks like a red star really bright in the middle. if the halo is red, there's a reason, no?

just because the star is red doesn't mean it's light casting is noticably red - like our star all the incoming light here we call white light

that's because of atmoshere. In a space scene, there's not atmosphere to modify the light spectrum. I've seen pics of nebulaes next to red giants, well, the nebulae is redish. Bah, anyway, that's not really important if you have the shadows where they're supposed to be.

Very nice second one Kazan, something to try... engine glows behind the ship and lowering the contrast on the nebulas - no nebula I know looks like that (although if you look at my earlier renders they looked like that but after a lot of moaning  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif) from everyone else I slowly dropped the contrast and got a better looking effect).

Oh yeah - if you really want (helpful nit-picking) then take a look at the lighting, as you can see from the planet it's only half illuminated, so the ship should be to  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

here you go - two versions of the a hecate firing. different lighting conditions [remembered to switch on "Cast shadows" for the light this time]

Yeah it does.  It just happens that to us, the light cast by the sun is natural.  But if the spectrum peak is redshifted significantly, well, it'll look redish.  I could go on about blackbody curves and **** , but I won't.  I'll just say 'trust me.'   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

I'd trust him, my friend has a degree in astrophysics and he agrees with this. Actually he's doing research into star density, he's a clever guy  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
