Title: Glorious eyecandy.. (image heavy)
Post by: Turnsky on September 06, 2005, 02:25:13 am
okay, since i got me a new vidcard (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Turnsky/The%20Pad/DSC00601.jpg)(a radeon x850 xt, folks), i've been running through all the games, and tech demos i've had a hard time running well, and it's glorious, i figured we all should go and compare good looking screenshots of tech demos/games running on our current hardware..
small exception, no freespace eyecandy, we've seen enough already.. ;)
and use lvlshot tags, please.

Give me another month and I'll show you what a GeForce 7800 GTX can do...

more of the same, most likely, as it's gonna be a DX9 card, like the X850's :p

besides, this isn't for showing off vidcards, but for showing off pretty screenshots that people have:nod:

It's a DX9 card, yes, but it supports SM3, which the X850 doesn't.

I'm going to shut up now, as I have nothing to contribute currently.

Nice screenies so far, though!

They may look pretty, but if the gameplay is the same old song and dance, then count me out. :p

That's 3D Mark 2005. It's a benchmark program used to test the power of your computer (although it can be somewhat biased).

You can't play it, sadly :)

That Proxycon demo would actually make an awesome game. The design style actually reminds me a lot of the FS mainhalls.

I might take some shots of SCCT and Far Cry a bit later. I can't show them exactly as they appear though, since the superbright thing is added on by the monitor.

Anyway, screenshots don't mean much for showing off video cards; what matters is how fast things run. You can have perfect looking screenshots in 2048x1536 16x/16x on a 6200TC card. :D

ditto, i woulda preferred it as an RTS, instead of a tactical thingy much like ST Command.

Edit: i'd show doom 3 off on this thing, if it weren't for the fact that it doesn't want to play nice with my audigy 2 card... damn bugs. :doubt:

Sorry. I changed what you said so that it more closely reflected what I was thinking.

well, if/when the SCP comes up with something that can use bloom, and more than 2x (even multisampling, too). then i may grab some screenies of that at a later date.. :p

and besides, you'd be showing off your latest toy, too, wouldn't ya? :P

Well, your opinion^^. I like it the way it is, its like Panzers Phase One oder Two, just in space. Something different compared to all those base-build-RTS games.
But Nexus had more potential, thats right, but its good that its an RTT, not an RTS. At least i think so^^...:ick: :D ;)

okay, another couple 'o screenies, this time, far cry, note: HDR is on by default if you put the settings all the way up as i have. (and the god thingy is there 'cuz i wanted to cruise along slowly taking screenies at a whim)

HDR is not enabled in those shots. Right now it's only supported on the Geforce 6 and 7 cards and you have to enable it through a console command. Here are some pictures of the game with HDR enabled.

Note that I have toned down the effect significantly using the console controls so it looks fairly realistic. The HDR screenshots you will see around the internet use the default settings and are much more pronounced, but look goofy ingame.

When HDR is on, I have to run the game in 1024x768 and turn down a few details to keep it above 60fps at all times, although it's well worth the tradeoff. Also, HDR does not work at all with any AA due to hardware limitations with the way it currently operates.

These don't look quite as nice as they actually do here though because of the monitor's superbright mode. Maybe I can take photos of the monitor itself. :D

FarCry's HDR is sort of experimental and can occasionally look screwy, although for the most part it's quite amazing. Unfortunately I don't have any savegames in the graphically good spots in SCCT, which has is the only game with fully working HDR rendering.

That spaceship thingie is neat.  Is it a full animation, can you control the viewpoints or does it just render a static scene?
