Title: Stand back Superman, Iceman, Spiderman.....

I'd heard this one before but I didn't have a link to it.

Ouch (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/09/12/nad_grabbing_granny/)

Battling nonagenarian grabs burglar by 'nads

A battling 93-year-old Lithuanian woman has thwarted an attempted burglary by grasping one of the miscreants by the testicles so hard that the sobbing blagger required hospital treatment, Ananova reports.

Soja Popova, from Klaipeda, answered the door to two young men who promptly knocked her to the ground. The fighting granny quickly grabbed one of them by the nuts and squeezed "with all my force as hard as I could", as she later told the cops.

Popova continued: "He started screaming like an animal and his friend was trying to pull him free, but I have a grip like iron." The man's howling and his mate's protestations that the old girl should lay off alerted neighbours who called in law enforcement. The two broke free but were cuffed by police after escaping the attacking nonagenarian through a bedroom window. One was taken to hospital, the other to the lock-up.

A police officer noted: "They would not have got far, one of them could hardly walk and seemed pleased when he saw the police car. He demanded that he be taken to hospital because he was in so much pain."

Popova attributes her grip of steel to years of milking goats. They breed their grannies tough out there in Lithuania, make no mistake.

I'm just glad that the burglar didn't sue her and win, which is what would've happened here in America.

If she squeezed hard enough I can see the burglar qualifying for a Darwin Award.

Bah. Iceman is a member of the X-men. If you want to go for Marvel superheroes, the Avengers are far better, though personally, I prefer the Outsiders or the old Teen Titans (~1985).

Wait, there's a new Spiderman cartoon? After the crappy cell-shaded MTV affair? Eugh.

Besides, if my memory serves me correctly there is no "Firestarter" in the Marvel universe.

...and what does Iceman have to do with Spiderman? There are a thousand characters to choose from, and they go with Iceman?

...and there's no so such person as Mona Osbourn.

...and the cartoon is from the 80's, which means everything I've just said is stupid and irrelevant. Damn.

LOL

Firestar was the 'token female', the original plan was Spidey, Iceman and the Human Torch, but it was felt better include a female in the line-up. Oddly enough, Iceman and the Human Torch used to work together quite lot in comics, and Spiderman is kind of the Ron Jeremy of Marvel Comics, theres no-one he hasn't worked with at some point.

Personally, I'll always be a fan of the Kanuck, Wolvie, stupid angst storyline aside, is still my favourite marvel character, but he was better when he was with Sasquatch/Puck and all those other wonderfully, stereotypically named members of, I think, Alpha Squad, the sort of Canadian division of the X-Men ;)

Alpha Flight! Puck was awesome. A guy being a dwarf due to a cursed sword being embedded in his soul.

Never did find out what happened after Sasquatch ended up in Snowbird's body though...

Alpha Flight, that was it, thanks :D

I think I got to just about the end of the original Secret Wars with the Beyonder (Screw Onslaught etc, even Galactus would have been looking for another bar with this guy around). Awesome stuff :D

I remember Sasquatch and Snowbird being merged, I think they pretty much split Alpha at that point, Wolvie had already left to join XMen iirc, and, since he was the main hook for the comics in the US, Alpha squad sort of faded, only to make a limited comeback in the Animated Xmen series.

Wolverine was never really a member of Alpha Flight, he just had a cameo for two or three issues when the Japanese tried reclaiming his adamantine.

Heh, well, I was about 11 at the time, so my memory is pretty murky ;) I seem to recall he was with them for longer than that, but, now I think about it,  most of my memories of Alphaflight were of Puck, Sasquatch and Snowbird and. I think, Shamen.

I reread most of the early stuff recently. The ones I read were actually all older than me, most being printed in about '85-'86, whereas I was born in '87.

You, sir, are clearly not familiar with the greatest story ever told in comic book history: The orgasmic orgy of violence, bloodshed, and shifting factions that was Maximum Carnage.
