Title: Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
Post by: BlackDove on September 12, 2005, 01:02:23 pm
Best.

Movie.

Ever.

Well. Damn good at the very least.

"I pity you who understands nothing. There is nothing that isn't important"

Heh.

Aside from the fantastic message the movie provides, I also liked all of the nuances they tied with the game, such as the use of Materia and Overdrives.

The CG was awesome though, this is the first time I saw speed emulated with such detail you were able to follow it even though it was really fast.

All in all, a really great sequel to the game, and a fantastic ending to Cloud's story. The story does leave much to be desired for however, which I hope will be presented in a PS3 game, with new characters. Though that's wishful thinking.

Himuro Kyouske - Calling

Look for that to keep you over while you wait. Theme song is rather awesome.

I want to KICK the dude who decided that VBR mp3 format would be the format of choice to present this fine piece of nostalgia tickling CG cinema.

BLARG

And the only english subtitled translation available seems a bit... awkward.

::counts blessings::

Those annoyances aside... THE FREAKING BEST CG MOVIE EVER!
Why oh WHY did Squarefilms WASTE money on that abomination called FF:Spirits within.

I gather Spirits were the testing phase for future projects. Like this.

Imagine if this was done in the way sprits were done?

I'm not going to put links here for you or definitive destination names. Are you insane?

My hint was enough for a smart person.

Anyway, I think the topic was how much Advent Children rules.

The movie was released in Japan on the 8th of September, DVD on 14th.

As far as an American release goes, it was supposed to happen two days after the Japanese one, but they delayed it with a statement "It will be released this holiday season".

Well, to anyone who didn't play FFVII (other FF games don't count) it would just be some good mindless CG action that looks rather ridiculous.

One of the reasons this kicks so much ass is because it caters to people who have been able to comprehend the entire Final Fantasy 7 storyline, and to them alone. The company has to have good money, good information on its fans, and a very big set of balls to spend money on something as limited as this. If you didn't play it, I don't think it'll be THAT good to you, and you might actually consider it crappy.

If you've spent hours in the damn Mythril Mines leveling everyone's limit breaks, then you'll salivate just over Cloud's use of Blade Beam.

The game was for PSX, some would argue the best game for that console, and it's essentially good 30-40 hours of storyline (if you're not rushing it that is). Some of it being complex storyline, as in, not that obvious. It's really a important bit of gaming history, so it's advisable to play it for that reason alone.

Once you figure all that out, then you're qualified to judge this movie reallly.

Hehe.

Well, as much as I'm naturally and logically against this type of stuff:

It holds true here. I mean, the movie is largely dependant on the Game first and foremost. It just doesn't make sense without the game.

Though seriously, if you haven't played the game, do so. It's a really good game if you're able to fully comprehend it.

FF7 was the first FF I played, I thought it was amazing with an unparalleled story. After that I tried FF8, it was ****, and the others look ****, but FF7 was good and everyone must play it!
Title: Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
Post by: IceFire on September 12, 2005, 07:04:55 pm
Yeah I'd like to give FF7 a shot sometime...

I suspect I'll like this even if I haven't played the game.  I generally like anime and anime influenced movies.  I like having to work to figure out the world and the rules that govern that world and all the little sub plots and subtle changes.  I LIKE stories that make me think...if this does that...then I'll like it.

Spirits Within even did that...it was a very well done movie.  Not perfect but very good.  I enjoyed the complexity of the plot...some may not have even noticed the complexity or shrugged their shoulders at it. Many of my friends did...
Title: Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
Post by: BlackDove on September 12, 2005, 07:08:52 pm
I saw the complexity in Spirits Within, and I usually watch it when they play it on TV, but the reason I think many don't see Spirits Within as a good movie, is because it has absolutely NOTHING to do with the way Final Fantasy worlds are governed. It was just a movie, movie like any other, with a rather simple theme.

Also, if you like to figure out stuff, boy you'll have a field day with this. So many things aren't explained for you in this one, I doubt you'll be able to get them. For example Materia, the importance of specific moves, anything about Jenova and its history, who the hell Aeris is, etc.

Too many things to count.

Game>Movie is my suggestion.

[color=66ff00]Yeah, I was about to start myself.

It's not so stable on 2K/XP though, I might get an emulator for my Xbox and see how well that runs.

so you mean, they don't like have unnaturaly detailed conversations about a charicter that has just been mentioned of whom they all have vast knowledge about but decide to have a five minute talk about who they are and why they are important anyway.

oh my god! I have wanted a show/movie to do this for sence ever!

and it's about a game I never played... :doubt:

Seek out the PC version and thou shalt find thine answer (http://warpstorm.com/community/Smileys/warpstorm/sid.gif)

On a side note, we need more smilies. WS has a far better assortment.

PC version needs a bunch of patches though. Look for patches, so it works under 2kXP without the insane hiccups.

Mine works fine. I've heard the Chocobos may have some problems, though, but I'll approach that when I get there. I'm busy being distracted by Tactics at the moment.

If you can, get the "ultima edition" - it's got a load of patches and maps etc. bundled with it, so you don't need to hunt them down separately. It's the one I have, and it's about a gig in size. Mine seems to be running fine on XP without any patches, though the Chocobo race in the Gold Saucer seemed to run at double speed. Still manageble, though, so no real problems with it.

I have it sitting on a DVD. I'll reinstall it after I get done with Tactics.

Whatever you do, if you're playing it for the first time, or re-playing it, pay attention to anything regarding Jenova and Cetra.

Following a walkthrough wouldn't be bad also.

I used a strategy guide while going through the first time, so I caught all the Jenova references.

While I never played the FF games, I just saw this and I must say I was blown away by the sheer level of detail to the entire thing. Graphics and sound were top notch, and the tension during the fights was quite fantastic. My particular favourite being when the entire "team" shows up to help fight the Bahamut?. The level of action and the way everything carries on is superb.

A winner, even for one who doesn't know much/anything about the FF series prior to this.

Edit/Update: Glad I got that right, BD :)

Yeah, it's Bahamut.

Well, it's Bahamut SIN to be exact.
Title: Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
Post by: Grey Wolf on September 13, 2005, 03:31:16 pm
Bahamut SIN? I was honestly thinking a new Weapon, as its appearance doesn't even remotely match Bahamut, Neo Bahamut, or Bahamut ZERO.
Title: Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
Post by: BlackDove on September 13, 2005, 06:35:05 pm
SIN Bahamut wasn't in the game, but it's definatly it according to official sources. The Neo and ZERO were two of three incarnations in the game, which is why I think they went with SIN, since it'd be kind of... thoughtless to favor one over another regarding the game, because after all, the player might not have gotten regular, Neo and ZERO, and therefore Cloud wouldn't have it in AC. Remember, you had to pick the summon materias up yourself, and if you didn't, there was never going back. Not to mention ZERO itself is a culmination of having the previous two.

As far as WEAPON goes, well, WEAPON's are the guardians of the Earth. You don't really summon them.

I was thinking perhaps Kadaj provoked it somehow. Also, the fact that Jenova would be a target for a Weapon.

Must...watch...

Why...must it...take...so very...long...TO BE RELEASED OVER HERE?!

Anyone that hasn't played FF7 before watching a FF7 sequel is a heretic and must be purged, slowly and painfully...

No...wait, scratch that. Anyone who just hasn't PLAYED FF7 must be purged.

Well, once they've finished up work on the FS mods, anyhow.
Title: Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
Post by: BlackDove on September 13, 2005, 10:16:15 pm
I was also thinking, why "Bahamut SIN". I gather it'd have something to do with the notion Vincent and Cloud brought up, about werther or not sin can be forgiven. I'd assume that when he gave himself the will to defeat Bahamut, he also found a way for his sin to be forgiven, ie, defeating evil, or at least trying to. The support he recieved from others pushing him upwards, would be a sign that he has been forgiven by them or... something to that effect. Or maybe a practical sign that they're also supporting him to be forgiven.

Meh, just thoughts anyway.

Also, something else has been made available.

Last Order: Final Fantasy VII is the latest addition to the
Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. It is an original animated
video that was released with the "Ultimate Edition" of
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.
It contains past events prior to the game Final Fantasy VII and
revolves around the event that took place in Nibelheim,
involving Zack, Cloud, Tifa and Sephiroth.

I'm not sure where, but I'm sure everyone knows how to search.

My thoughts though

It's a Japanese DVD rip.

What'd you think it was? :p

Last Order was done in pure anime. It's about 30min long.

It was spectacular really.

Also, mandatory references to the conversations of our time.
