Title: Freespace 1 and 2 on a Laptop keyboard... Possible or not?
Post by: ZmaN on September 12, 2005, 02:35:08 pm
my dad has a dell inspiron 2200 and well, as u know the laptop's keyboard is not loike a desktop keyboard...

1) Is freespace able to recognize that some keys arent there?
2) Is there a different configuration for a laptop?
3) theres a number pad on the laptop, but yopu need to hold the Function key down, those keys are the following letters: 7, 8, 9, 0, u, i, o, p, j, k, l, ;, m

do those keys refer to any targeting keys in freespace 1 and 2?

yeah you could remap the keys easily.

or spend $3.00 on a regular keyboard or something.  either one :)

You can remap Freespace 2's keys however you like.

However, I'd suggest buying a regular keyboard for any sort of gameplaying, so you don't destroy the laptop's.

when i first bought FS2 back when it had just come out, i ran it on my mothers laptop. it was the only computer we had. i still remember that it was such a bad computer that i could only play the game in the third person view, because in first person it used up just a bit too much memory, and was too jumpy. the nebula missions were interesting...nice big red and blue squares. and i had the keyboard issue, but it wasnt too bad. i use the mouse these days anyway, you dont turn as fast, but you can be much more acurate with lasers, and since i kill most things with my guns, that is a nice advantage to have.

but it is totally posible to play. i went and bought a new computer just so i could play FS2..thats pretty funny actually. i usually use FS2 to test a new computer when i buy it too. i can tell the difference untill it starts to get nice and super like my computer back in australia. but i have to upgrade that when i get back...time for duel CPU's and RAM in the GB's and a kick ass vidio card...ooooooooohhh yeaaaaaaaaaaaa, thats makin me drool :)

Dual CPUs won't help Freespace 2 at all, unless you run a bunch of programs in the background.
Title: Touchpad mouse
Post by: Veracity on May 23, 2006, 10:48:00 pm
I can see remapping many of the keys on my laptop. But what about the touchpad mouse??? The ship does not react at all to me moving my finger around the touchpad. Any suggestions, fixes for this?

I still want to know if it is possible to use the touchpad, if it works for some people, or if there is something special I have to configure to get it working on my lappy.
