[color=66ff00]Ever since seeing the promo of the GBA:Micro (//www.wired.com/news/games/0,2101,68777,00.html) in a copy of Edge a while back I've been toying with the idea of whether or not it's a worthy purchase. It's bloody tiny but isn't backwards compatible so playing ZeldaDX isn't an option though there's a veritable plethora of GBA games that are worthy of playing.
On the other hand there's the Generation NEX (//www.playmessiah.com/onlinestore/gnex_faq.htm) which is pretty sexy IMHO and also lets me get some oldskool gaming done. It's quite affordable and NES games are quite cheap on ebay these days.
What do you guys think?

the world wants a proper-sized nintendo console, not some teeny little piece of plastic! :p
-
Turnsky, I'm going to adapt a line from the GOP... (Yeah, it gives me the willies too.)
Nintendo has fallen out of touch with the needs of America.
-
I use the GBA SP as my portable retro gaming console (Super Mario Brothers, Super Mario Brothers 3, and Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past), with my computer playing a supplemental role.

I vow not to buy another handheld console untill someone combines mobile phones, GPS, 32bit gaming and LCD screen, internet connection (tied into the GPS of course), 4mp minimum digital camera with bluetooth, infrared and USB 2.0 support, 2GB minimum hard drive and MP3 player.
Not that this is particularly relevant. But what the heck.

Sounds like a nightmare to me; I already hate the idea of phones that take pictures. :p
I already have an Advance SP (which I consider amazing :)), so I don't have any need to buy this one. It looks nice, and the faceplate idea is cool, but I don't like the lack of backwards compatibility.

Fluff, IMO. Doesn't the DS take GBA games?

You know, there's a Windows based Smartphone coming out later this year you might want to look into. It either contains everything you listed, or can have it added through the use of the SD slot or the CF slot.
Hell, about the only thing my current PDA can't do on that list is the 4mp camera, the USB2.0 support (by which I assume you mean HOST support, since its already a USB2.0 device) and the mobile phone support. All three of which can be added through CF.
Of course, if I'm anywhere near an 802.11 hotspot, my PDA is a VoIP phone. Then again, that new one coming out later this year shifts from mobile phone mode to VoIP mode to save your wireless minutes whenever you're in a hotspot.
Personally, I'll keep my devices seperate. That way I don't lose everything when one thing gets stolen.

aldo: Yes, it does. The target audience of the GBA Micro is the "OMG ITS SO TINY!!1!" market.
Kalfireth: 2GB flash memory. 2GB HDDs no longer make any sense.
-
Meh.. I already have a concept of this device in my head. Just you people wait and see ;)

Actually, on that point you're wrong and right. Flash suffers from wear more than a hard drive does. Or course, Flash uses less energy than a hard drive. Large flash is more expensive per megabyte than hard drives. As for 2Gb Flash? Bah. Samsung just demonstrated a 32GB flash chip. That means up to 64GB CF cards. :D
-
The chip is 16 Gbit, not 32GB. 16 of them can make a 32GB flash drive, and that's probably what you were thinking of.
-
Wait, so they went from a horizontal GBA to a flip-up GBA SP to a dual screen Nintendo DS back to a horizontal GBA Micro?
I...see.
-
DS is the high-end product, GBA Micro is the gadget-fetish market product.

given that they're a Japanese company, i'm not entirely surprised.

My mistake. I misread the Ars Technica article.
The rest of my points stand though. :) I'll take a 32GB CF card. :)

Fluff. But cool fluff, nonetheless.
