Title: Loading Screen help
Post by: madaboutgames on September 14, 2005, 09:39:15 pm
Im using fred2 v 3.5.5.  When assigning loading screen I can only assign pcx files, any idea why??  I need to use tga files which are much higher quality.
I viewed the vp file of fraider wars 2, and all loading screens are in tga format so i should be able to use them.

Just wait until you're finished and then edit the file in notepad if you insist on using 3.5.5 (Which let's face it is around 2 years old)

The SCP Forum/Recent Builds Subforum. There should be a topic near the top.

Sorry my mistake, its 3.6.5 im using, i just type in the field for picture and works fine.

Nother question : Is it possible to play full screen animations during a campaign (the begining, end or halfway through) and is it posible to use another format other than .anim ??

You mean cutscenes like FS2 had?

Look Here (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/freespace/fredopen.html#Cutscenes)

Yes. Use Gamecam (http://www.planetgamecam.com/) as long as you're not capturing sound as it's much better. (You have to pay extra for sound capture though).

Nice one, Ill be making a trailer at xmas and all this will come in very handy and can add a bit more depth to the campaign with cut scenes and sepetate loading screens.  Cheers.

1 more question though and last one is how to make a vp file, which bit of the freespace toolkit do i need to download?

Thanks Karajorma

I need to actually upload my updates to the FAQ. I keep having to cut and paste stuff I haven't uploaded yet :D

First you'll need some VP making Software. I personally use Kazan's VP Constructor Suite (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,29035.0.html ) (VPCS) but once you've grasped the basics you'll probably find that any of the programs available are easy to use. I'm going to assume you're using VPCS for the rest of this guide.
