this is my first fs2 mod. I have the mod itself working but where do I put the glowmap stuff and all the other extras?

You mean the VP files?  Put them in the same folder (i.e. Freespace2) as the other VP files.  Just make sure to remove them before running any other mods.

If you're using the SCP, you can put all the mods in a separate folder (e.g. "fsport") and use the SCP's -mod command.
