Asking Goober non-yes/no questions?

Where can we find Twilight, Goober? (I'm assuming Third Twilight?)

You know what?

I played it - and even remember you had to 'pause' the game when the Talon appeared, as the model/tbl. wasn't 100% cocher.

IMHO this campaign was the other 'great' one, with as much flair and character as Derelict - though in game Derelict has gone further and done it all with 'mere FREDING (which is quite a monument on itself).

That would be because it is linked to Swooh.

And the old Swooh storage stuff is messed up, IIRC.

Well in think it was more like Ace's personal project.
Title: Twilight
Post by: Goober5000 on September 21, 2005, 04:46:58 pm
The order is Derelict, Warzone/Twilight (in parallel, but Warzone starts first), BWO, and then Paradigm Shift if it ever gets released in the next million years.

I seem to have left my one-word answers back on page 1. :nervous:

Post by: Cobra on September 21, 2005, 11:16:45 pm
um, i thought Derelict took place 2 months after capella?
Title: Twilight
Post by: BlackDove on September 21, 2005, 11:38:11 pm
Warzone, Derelict (because they were the two IceFire participated in, and he is the main writer for BWO), and then somewhat sideways Twilight, but that was Ace's puppy, and carries over influence because he writes it... along with me really. It's also fun, because it's possible.

Also:

Actually it looks like you're partially right, which means the campaigns give inconsistent information.  Derelict takes place in 2372 and Warzone in 2371, but I thought Warzone made reference to Derelict somewhere.  Twilight takes place in 2372 but makes reference to Warzone in the present tense.  Warzone's website actually states that it takes place in 2372 which would make Derelict, Warzone, and Twilight all concurrent.  No wonder the GTVA was overstretched!

Ace wanted to remake Twilight but he did put an official release up for download as seen here (http://web.archive.org/web/20010813072008/http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/twilight/).  Babel Effect was lost because of a hard drive crash or summat and was therefore "postponed indefinitely".

I can't access the fixed model.

Plus I find almost 6 mistakes in the tables that caused FSO to crash when it was firing up.

For anyone looking for that fixed model file, I seem to have it lying around for some reason.  (I never even noticed that the .exes were corrupted; guess I should have tried to actually play the campaign at some point. :p) So, without further ado, enjoy (http://home.comcast.net/~andrewduk/blacktalon2.zip).

It appears that the Readme for the functional Zipped version appears to be on the fritz.  Now, i've got a folder full of various files (below) and no idea what to do with 'em. Would someone be able to inform me as to how one would go about getting this bastard to work...?

Is anyone else getting corrupt dls?  I pulled down the zipped vp, and it was broken.  I pulled down the unpacked zip, and it was broken.  AFAIK I'm only missing 'peracles.pcx', but for all I know it stopped downloading early.

Yes, my downloads are ending prematurely.  Who'd believe so much trouble to download a 2.4Mb file? :)

Make a new folder called data inside the one you've got pictured called data.

Make a new folder inside that one called tables. Copy anything that ends in .tbl to that folder.

Make a Data\Models folder. Move the .pof file in there.

You should just be left with just 2 .vp files in the main folder.

Select the twlight folder with the launcher as your mod and you're done.

Curses! I'm getting a launcher error that says:
Quote
Mod directory name can't contain space
Which is quite perplexing, as the name of the folder is simply 'twilight', no spaces, symbols, or anything in sight...for the record, i'm using the Launcher version that came with 3.6.7...

...Upon further inspection, this appears to affect every attempt I make to select a mod, no matter which one...!
Title: Twilight
Post by: karajorma on September 26, 2005, 11:04:14 am
It's cause you've installed FS2 in "program files".

I've heard that selecting no mod and then manually typing in -mod twilight should solve your problem though.

Oh, bloody hell, i'm about ready to just give up on the whole damn thing...!

...I get this error on starting up with Twilight selected, doesn't even get to the opening cinematic...

Yeah, that's what I meant here:

1) In practically every table, the copyright notice was introduced by a colon, not a semicolon. This meant that the copyright notice was being parsed as part of the table, not as a comment.
I found all the table errors in my link back there, and I wrote down all the instructions for anyone who wants to read them. :blah:

What's been delaying a Twilight re-release is two things:
1) New CB animations.

2) Waiting for the SCP features to have everything I want. (namely pixel shaders so I can have my glow effects!)

The plot is still the same, just an overhaul on the Creon and the inter-system subspace device.

As it is, I'm not very happy with the current campaign. Too many weird glitches that appear on some computers, but not on others. Even the attempts by other people to fix the various model bugs haven't panned out, as if it is caused by some sort of phantom.

Anyway, some day there will be a finalized version.

As for the plot:
Warzone, Derelict, and Twilight are more or less concurrent.

Twilight is a small operation in Ikeya (just the GTD Morgaine and a Vasudan admiral who caught wind of what the GTVI was really up to...), it ties more directly to the supar-secrat stuff in BWO than any of the shady dealings in either Warzone or Derelict.

b) You asked Setekh to make them back in 2002 or so and he hasn't yet. :p That's not a good trend.

Ugh.  You'll likely be waiting a long time on that as well.

Nobody else who has posted is a coder or a modeller.  Don't you think it's rather more likely that they didn't fix the model correctly?

I ran the debug build of FSO a year ago and found out what the problems were.  They're still the same problems as the campaign hasn't changed between then and now.

Bah.  Whoever has trouble running Twilight, download this file (http://fs2source.warpcore.org/temp/twilight_patch.zip), extract it to the appropriate places, and run the campaign.  It'll work just fine.

A running motif in Twilight, Warzone, and Derelict seems to be a GTVI insurgency in the works.  In Warzone, you have Admiral Russik, a former GTI agent wanting to control Shivans; in Twilight, there's the Laomedon Conclave, a GTVI division making artificial nodes and trying to control Shivans; and in Derelict, it's a lot more subtle with that strange mission where a GTFf Saphah and stealth fighters suddenlt attack you while you're searching for the MTD Auriga.  MT is probably part of the GTVI conspiracy, and I guess things will come to a head in BWO.
