Title: Help with Open GL.
Post by: WeatherOp on September 17, 2005, 05:07:48 pm
FS Open tells me to get Open GL 1.2, and it says I have version 1.0. I have downloaded the latest drivers for my Mobility Radeon X-600.  Open GL works fine on games like IL-2:AEP, but I cant' run FS even on D3D without the error telling me to get updated Open GL drivers. Do I need to get another set of Open GL drivers?

So what's the most recent "proper" (read: not experimental) build? I had the same problem when I pulled the build from the SCP site.

Just use one of the most recent builds. They're faaaaar less buggy than the "proper" ones at this point.

367 should be out tomorrow.  just finishing the installer and cleaning up the last few remaining bugs.

Hmm... Open GL never works for me, as soon as a model is being loaded (for example in the tech room) the game crashes and I find myself on the desctop with a funny message (Driver was not being able to recover your GPU or something like that).

Then why isn't one of them listed as the proper "official" current version?

This problem occurs with every catalyst driver version (I am using 5.7 and 4.4). Maybe I have to reinstall windows to solve the problem since open gl mode worked a few months ago.

Cause 3.6.7 is very close to release and it will be the proper official release.

I wondered if this was just happening to me (and I hadn't traced it to being the first frame).  Basically you just get a dim discoloration where the shield hit should be, right?

EDIT: Actually this is build-dependent.  I've Mantised it, since I'm not the only one seeing it.

I used to get that too. It's definitely an issue with the frames, since I reverted back to an older shieldhit animation (the same thing, just an ani instead of dds frames) and the problem went away.

Why was that thing made into dds's, anyway? They look identical to the ani version.

Actually it's still an issue with the old version as well (which starts out brighter) as the old version doesn't animate either.

It's fixed now.

Very good. That's what I'll wait for.

Word. And it is SWEET. Nice job.

You know, FSO plays REALLy well on a Logitech (Dual Shock Ripoff) Gamepad. :D

I've got one like that, but trying to fly with a control stick is too sensitives for my tastes. Probably because I've been flying with the mouse for months on end...

Normally I'd be flying with my HOTAS gear, but I'm too lazy to set up the profile right now.

Should my screen go green when I get the user prompts in the tech room (like the loading screen where its opening model files) or when it asks me if I'm sure if I want to quit?

Is that back AGAIN?  I swear that's been fixed like 6 times.

If in D3D, yes.  It's been broke for a while and we were so fed up with bugs we didn't want to postpone release for that.

I get really long delays (described here (http://lore.maxgaming.net/~scp/mantis/bug_view_page.php?bug_id=0000560)) but no strange colors. It's annoying but not too bad.

Um. No. OpenGL.

Hm.  Might be in OGL also but that's doubtful.  Mantis it.

The green screen thing in OGL is known and already in Mantis.  It appears to be an ATI only problem and since all of my cards are NVIDIA (or non-windows ATI) I can't recreate it.  It only seems to happen in fullscreen 32-bit mode as well.

And it's not universal.  I don't see that with my X800/5.8 Catalysts either.

ATI? Check.
Fullscreen? Check.
32bpp mode? Check.
OpenGL? Check.

That's me, Taylor. ATI Radeon 9800Pro, if it helps. Um... 6.14.10.6553 is the driver version.

I think it's just crappy drivers (OS X drivers work great on ATI cards and FS2_Open) and probably a condition of the format being used for 32-bit back saves.  Do screen shots look ok to you?  It uses the same basic code so if the one is broken because of the format then the screen shots should be broken too.  I think that there is likely just a particular order of something that ATI drivers want and if it doesn't get it it will crap out.  This likely tied to specific cards with specific drivers though which is why it's working fine for some people.

Without having access to a Windows machine sporting an ATI card with the problem there isn't much I can do to fix it though.  I've searched Google and the OpenGL lists/forums without much luck.  Everything that I've found I've tried so it's got to be something else and without a machine to physically test stuff out on I'm pretty much at a loss.

Well, in my case I only see the greenout on the bits I mentioned above. It never comes up in game.

I'm also having that shield problem mentioned above.  The shots do the dissipation animation when they hit the shields, but the shields don't show.  This only started happening for me in 3.6.7.
Title: Help with Open GL.
Post by: StratComm on October 01, 2005, 05:54:08 pm
Are the shields completely invisible, or do they only barely show?  The distinction is pretty small, but it points to a completely different problem.  I've been told this was fixed post 3.6.7, though I've yet to test a build where it should theoretically work.
