Title: Avast ye scurvy blaggards!
Post by: Black Wolf on September 18, 2005, 09:04:10 am
In the spirit of International Talk Like a Pirate Day, which ye all ought to know be tomorrow (I be gettin' an early start in) I've been workin' on a high poly version of the finest vessel ever to sail the stars - the mighty Volition Pirate Ship! But it strikes me that if we be making an entirely new set of media VP items, then the V pirate ship ougth t'be the HLP Pirate Ship!

So, while the model is still in the process of bein' built, I be calling all able bodied seadogs who think the pirate life be for them to post a picture of their face, for'ard and, if ye can get it, from the port (or starbord I suppose - it makes little difference) so that yer ugly mug can be put onto the texture map.

Space is limited (It be a big ship, but we be runnin' short on eyepatches, and a pirate with no eyepatch be barely a pirate at all), so priority'll be given to SCP coders and Media VP contributors and th'like.

Arr!

Here's a WIP of the actual ship model.

There's more detail coming, but I'm trying to keep it under 10000 polies (It's a rare enough ship that I figure I can justify 'em) and I want to find out the size of the crew before I waste too many polies on rum barrels and treature chests and the like.

I thought we had a high poly model just needed to be textured.

It was done in quite awesome detail too.

Anyway, good of you to do this.

I allways thouhg our SCP guys deserve a pirate ship of their own...but of course, a high-tech one to mirror their achievments:

Hi-tech = heresy.

The whole point is that it's wooden.

Sweet! I've been wondering if anyone would high-poly this thing for a while.

Any pirate ship.

Please assume I can read. Saves us the meaningless back and forth.

If someone wants to make an HLP pirate ship, that's fine, but do not use it to replace the Volition Bravos.

Dang..that means that now I'll have to re-skin my NTF pirate armada..those metal plates simply won't do.....

Hm...I would need the faces of the SCP team...

But aside from the comedy, crazy and team honouring factors, what purpose would it serve..who would ever use it anyway?

A new cheat is in order. Start thinking up a good line to activate it.

Nobody really uses the Bravos either, but I do it from time to time for kicks.

Especially in a particular BWO mission, in which you'll want to do it too when we release it.

Have the coders hack a new code into the game: www.freespace3.com

It summons the HLP Pirate ship and promptly kills you for mentioning the forbidden game. ;)

Er, plus, I have a use for the Bravos soon, so please don't replace it... :nervous:

This looks very good, but I agree with Carl that it shouldn't replace the original one as it's not really a high poly version of that.

I call in the Bravos every now and then. In general, I like goofing around with things like this in games. :D The only annoying thing is that long code needed to spawn it. It would be nice if an alternate, shorter version was added in.

The reason it's long is because you need to push the same keyes twice, keyes that by default activate ****.

Naturally, it could do without the arrrr

No it couldn't.  What's the point of even having the cheat without having to type the long "arrrr" string in there? :p

Ye see, the problem be with tables. If it don't replace the [V] Pirates, then it can't be inserted without replacing some actual ship.

But if ye be attatched to yer Bravo's, that be fine. At the very least, I've earned a thing or two about making boat hulls, which I can use t'make higher tech'ns for TI.

I think Blackwolf's ship is too sensible lookin'. I'd rather a proper cartooney stylee ship, kinda like Hook's ship in PeterPan cartoons. Or somethin'.

Personally I'd have something like this done:

http://www.modelshipmaster.com/products/tall_ships/xebec1%20(28).JPG

And then you stick those ugly mugs on them, it's funny as hell.
