....something I've been working over the last week or so.
Thanks to Matthewpapa for the hosting - he rulez!
44.5 Mb, .wmv format, so you'll need VLC player or the equivalent to play it. (http://www.game-warden.com/singh/AJOTF.exe)
I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I did making it. Be gentle on the criticism, since this is the first I've actually done in this method :)
edit:bah...why do I keep on doing this? link fixed
-
404?
-
Sigh :(
I really gotta learn to post when im not exhausted link fixed :(
FYI: its compressed to .exe, so dont worry about it being a virus
-
Cool video. I was convinced it had something to do with AvP though.
What was the other game other than Halo and Freespace? Or was that Halo too?
-
There was only Halo and Freespace 2 in there. :)
-
I'm not very up on Halo (I've played the first level of Halo:CE and heard people talking about them in Vs debates on SB.com :nervous:.), I take it the bug things were the covenant?
-
the only covenant were in the heretic's section. The small bug things were the flood, something you'll be seeing as well.
Dont worry about lack of knowledge though - I hope to be writing it for the reading of a total stranger to both universes, so there should be little problem in that sense :)

Ach - just realized that you might have been referring to the Madman section. If so, then the shivans there are from the FS1 mainhall cutscene :)
oh - and no replies? Come on...if it sucks, at least say so!
-
It's a bunch of vidcaps from two games with apparently nothing in common. So what?
EDIT: And the fact that it was in a weird format didn't help either.
-
I just didn't find it to be anything special.
Didn't get the point really.
Also, I kind of dislike Halo, so that doesn't help.
-
Three cheers for Untrue Victory...
HipHip...
Overall, a good trailer. I understand the Halo clips too: using them as a substitute for FS's lack of ground-based action or footage.

In this case, they have something in common. Perhaps I should've been more clear - but I realize that, well, I guess it isn't much or anything special either.
It was meant to be sort of a mini-trailor for AJOTF, partly to get myself motivated back into writing the story, and partly as sort of showing the dream I have for the story; of where I intend to take it; of how far I wish to reach.
It was also meant as a sort of test for myself in the terms of video editing - this was my first project using Adobe Premier, ever, so it was exhilirating in that sense. :)
I guess, well, if you don't know the story, or are not interested in it, I doubt it would matter much at all....:/
-
I'm realy confused about the whole thing...
-
Singh: It was nicely put together as far as technical quality went, but it wasn't at all clear what it was trying to say. I assumed it had something to do with your story but it never told me what. Usually movie trailers start out with a summary and then emphasize a few bullet points, or do bullets then summary, but your movie was all bullets.
-
Well, that's true I guess. Should've put a bit more thought into it :/
Can't remake it though, since all the original scene files have been deleted (they took up 18Gb of space overall O_o) but ill tkae note of it when I start preparing the teaser trailer for desperation.
-
Please tell me you're not trying to do a Freespace crossover with Halo. I've loved your Bosch story so far but if the Master Chief shows up or something like that I'll be disappointed.
-
Unfortunately, yes, I am.
Sorry to disappoint you. But if it makes you feel any better or worse, (in hte case of the latter, im sorry) I have to say that it's the starting. Eventually, it will go into other universes as well, but only a few others will be established, while the rest will be original.

One video format that just won't work correctly...
I had to fast forward through 3/4 of it because IrfanView kept on stopping playback. VLC wouldn't show the video, and media player classic simply froze the system. :doubt:
Anyway...I started out thinking the idea was a good one, but after 'watching' the trailer, I started feeling somewhat cringey...the same way you might feel when listening to the dialogue in Episode 2.
The captions just seemed obviously mysterious, almost melodramatic.
I was hoping for something more...Machinama style.

Hmm...the codec bit is odd, since I got VLC player to play it perfectly.
Well...I wish I could give you something Machimia style (especially for the FS2 bit) but my system barely runs FRAPs at all...plus getting the lack of willing participants would be a serious obstacle (not to mention I dont ahve the skillz, sorry).
I'm sorry it wasn't to your tastes...but, well, it is my first try. I'll take note of all the suggestions in whatever piece I attempt next, as well as to get it right and done well. Again, thanks for the feedback and criticisms :)
Blackdove: Well, sorry it ain't to your tastes then...apologies for wasting 8 minutes of your time and 44 megs of your bandwidth. :/
-
meh, you do a pretty good job writing it, so I'll probably keep reading it...

 wasn't for the vid, it was for the merger with Halo. It's really really reaaaaaaaaaaaaally a bad bad worse worst move.

Not really. It may seem like a bad move, but in the grand scheme of things, it fits in pretty nicely. Besides...Halo isn't ALL bad - only the games and the 2nd book lacked any serious plot - something which I do not plan to lack.
-
It's not the plot I'm worried about...
-
...then mind telling me what you are worried about then?
The better I am forwarned of problems, the better I can deal with them, and in the end, hte better a story there is to read....
-
The simple jist of it is that FS is too centralised and closed off in its own universe so it doesn't allow for any kind of a crossover with anything else, not in a logical sense anyway. Not to mention the design flaws you're going to run into just because you're trying to do something original.
It's a huge waste of time. We can agree to disagree, I'm just telling you how I feel about it. Maybe others won't feel the same way, but then again, a good amount of others wanted red shockwaves to be cannon in FreeSpace, so maybe you're spot on.

hmmm...im not sure what you are getting at of freespace being too centralished or closed off.
Truth to be told; I see it as entirely opposite. :v: has dangled a loose string in front of us, in the term of Bosch and his alliance with the Shivans, while leaving another (albiet, well hidden) one in FS1 with the fate of the ancients. I have already used these two threads to open up the story, and the universe a bit. Continuing to do so carefully without unravelling the story will be tricky, to say the least, but I believe it is possible.
Either way, yes, we can agree to disagree, but at the least, i'd like to address your concerns, if nothing else - it wouldn't be right just to dismiss what may just be a valid and very vulnerable flaw in the system without some consideration at the least. If you could clarify a bit more though, it would be appreciated.

Dude. GameCam (http://www.planetgamecam.com/). Now.
-
I'm downloading this now.
I don't know nothing about Halo (mainly 'cos I'm not interested, at all), and I'm all for canon, but I like when people try other boundaries and make something completely new, like stithe did the Universes mod. :)
I'll throw my opinions about the vid later. :)
-
having not watched the video, because dial-up sucks, I gather you are trying to merge Halo and FS universes?
if so, why?
if not, could you explain what you are trying to do?
-
Have you read this? (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,28715.0.html)
It's Singh's fanfic which will be crossing over Halo & FS.
-
I thought this thing was fantastic. Very nice work.
P.S. I LOVE your music choices.

So be it, I say. I'm no Halo fan, but that fiction of yours is good enough that I'm certain you'll pull it off nicely.
