Title: Problems with Into the depths of Hell.
Post by: Rand al Thor on September 21, 2005, 01:56:33 pm
Just tried running chapters 2 to 4 of this campaign with SCP 3.6.5, the fs2_open_C01202005.exe, and 3.6.7_p4. All of them give me errors.

I aint got any hosting at the moment so I'm gonna just have to paste them here, sorry:

Anyone got any idears? And why does it change the ship that it thinks causes the error for 3.6.7_p4?

I am stumped.

You sure you haven't got a rogue table or VP file?

Are you placing all your mods in folders and using the select mod button?

Post by: Rand al Thor on September 21, 2005, 02:17:58 pm
Theyre in a mod folder, -IntothedepthsofHell as it happens, and I tried having them all in there at first using the chpt 4 tables but that game me table errors all over the place; about 8 everytime I launched.

So the above errors are just from trying chpt 2. Dunno why it would give a problem with the Ares or this Scimitar.

Post by: Rand al Thor on September 21, 2005, 02:22:42 pm
Weird. It just loaded without a problem that time but the Scimitar wasn't in the tech room (with the  Ctrl Alt S, thanks works with 367) or the model viewer F3 thing.

But then it CTD'd when I went to weapons.

Crazy. Who knows.

Also, is there a VP builder around? FSO doesnt seem to pickup the non vp chapter one unless its dumped in main directory and not a mod subfolder.

The contents of a VP would need to be dumped into /moddir/data/, not just moddir.

And this is definitely a rogue table problem.

Ok, so let me get this straight.

The download (and lets just concentrate on chpt 2) comes with a vp file and then some music and table files. I have to put these all in the -IntotheDepthsofHell\data folder?

Well I've just tried it. Completely deleted the mod folder I had and recreated it and I get this list of errors.

It's definately a table problem but unless freespace is reading a table from another mod folder for some reason its not a case of the being a rogue table in there.

Also, even though the pof for the Orc is in the VP it doesn't display an image in the tech room. Its entry and description are there, just no spinning ship.

AND, the Deadelus (?) causes a CTD, it doesn't seem to be anywhere in the VP.

I might just wait till Noise repackages them all. Don't have the patience for messing around with tables at the mo.

The SCP tightened up the requirements for table files a while back. You could try going into the launcher and turning on the troubleshooting>>Disable parsing errors option but be warned that the stricter parsing was there to prevent crashes.

Im not pc savy, but I found that the 1st part works with 3.6.7 and the 2nd works with 3.6?

I couldnt get it to work by making it a mod, I just followed the instructions from the readme file.

On a related note, it seems that the links to Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 on Noise's site seem to be not active. Has anyone hosted these elsewhere?

The Scimitar has been a royal pain so far, I'll be replacing it with the Athena DH and call it a stealth bomber, as for the weapons table, I'll be trimming that down too.

The whole campaign so far has been built using vanilla FS2, so that might be your best option, and chapter 2 has the most bugs, that was when I first started playing around with mods, which probably is the source of most of the problems.  Don't worry, things are being reworked.

1) It's not a hosted project.
2) Since Noise is basically working on it single handed why would he need a forum?

Maybe for the same reason that Ransom has a forum for Transcend: publicity, releases, and a place where issues and bugs such as these can be addressed and not scattered across HLP.

Point is that none of those are a requirement exactly. There are plenty of single designer campaigns that have little more than a website.

Hell look at Blaise. No one has the faintest clue what he's working on till he pops up with a finished campaign :D No forum even though he's released more stuff than anyone else.

I don't bother asking for one for SoR/TMA because I know that once I had one I'd be expected to post updates every couple of months and that's not the way I work.

Hows Mind Games going anyways? The background for it is the most through explination for FS that I have ever read.

It's going. Slowly but it's going. My plan is to finish SoR first so I can devote some real time to it. :)

Anyway best to not to hijack the thread :)

The link your using is to a dynamic page of some kind.  Follow the link and it should in turn contain a download link.  If it's dead, then its dead.

I get a valid .rar archive like I'm supposed to.  Make sure you're allowing it save as the correct filetype, I guess.  You may also just be able to change the extension and have it work if you're actually getting a 2.8 Mb file.

EDIT: I've seen both Firefox and IE try to save a picture as a .html document before, this may well be the same bug.  Try restarting your computer.
Title: Problems with Into the depths of Hell.
Post by: StratComm on October 13, 2005, 10:18:32 pm
To me, they're called whatever the archive is called.  What happens is you get the correct file but something in between loses what file you're pointed at and index.php is getting substituted in its place (for name only, so it's almost certainly something in your system).  I've never seen it happen to an archive before, but I've seen similar phenomenon.
