Title: Will it run in OS X?
Post by: Soulstorm on September 28, 2005, 12:56:48 am
A new version of FS2_open has been released for OS X 2 days ago and it runs perfectly so far. So, I would like to ask if the Babylon project can run in OS X. And if it does, are there any problems while doing this?

How can I install it in OS X? Will I need Virtual PC for it?

Thank you in advance.

TBP will work as well as anything else running in OSX using the new fs2_open.

So in short, yes, it should work.

See here: http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=113

Official support for OSX and Linux will be available at later time. Technical support for said operating systems from TBP staff's part will still be very limited however.

Of course, that link doesn't work anymore, so any hints for those of us trying to get TBP 3.0 to work with our copy of the mac executable?

For starters, how to install the darn thing.

Edit: I've got it working! I had a PC user extract the data for me-wish you'd just distribute in a zip or something, but hey.

I second the suggestion to release TBP in a zip format for Mac OS X users running FS2_Open!

The current installer is Windows based, but we will be using a multi-platform installer in future releases, but I can't say so far if the 3.3 patch will use such an installer.

You don't need to make an installer, especially if it requires months of waiting. Just zip/rar/stuff/tgz/whatever all the mod-specific folders, raw. We'll figure out where to put them ourselves. FS2Open has a nice neat directory structure, seems obvious where everything should go ... if we could just get access to the damn files.

The problem at the moment is that patching the 3.2 install required a much smaller download than uploading the entire 3.3 archive.

I do agree that it's the wrong way to go as the Linux and MacOS freespace communities have drastically increased over the last few months.
