Post by: Sandwich on August 24, 2001, 02:58:00 am
I stand amazed. Wow. Have you seen the Hubble Deep Field (//"http://oposite.stsci.edu/pubinfo/PR/96/01/HDF.html") images yet?

Yeah, real life runs at true color, 3.3x10e32 by 3.3x10e32 pixels/cm resolution and has a frame rate of 5.3x10e43 FPS.   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

I'm still waiting for a lag patch. Whenever I start talking to someone, everything freezes for a moment, and next thing I know they're gone.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

OH yeah, and I forgot that the bumpmapping and lighting in reality is just ace!  Almost real, in fact.   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

I'm still running on a dodgy graphics core... when I turn ray-traced shadows on, I get dramatic slow downs. It sucks.

Is it me, or is the Z-Buffer sometimes a little bit weird... especially when coupled with Vodka...

Thats good, I was beginning to worry... one other thing... this motion blur thing... it sucks! Quake3 on a Voodoo5 was much better!  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/lol.gif)

I'm on a 56k (connects @ 41.2 though...) as well. The amazing thing to me about them pics was not the colors, but the amount of galaxies!

on my lil old 56k modem i get a 115200 bps connection  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)
And all those galaxys would make nice hiding spots for the shivans.......

You do know thats not your real connection speed right? I have the same and I think it's the speed between your parallel port and the modem (assuming its external). Don't quote me on this though.

Quoted.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Actually, that is the speed at which the computer's bus (PCI or ISA) communicates with the port itself. The modem is just limited to that speed.

Yea man.  Space exploration will be quite interesting in the coming years.

It happens mostly when I get dizzy... things just disappear of their own accord...   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

And, hell yes, that's a lot of stuff out there.   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Oh, and by the side, I connect at 56,700 (used to be 24,000 on my 28.8 - h4w!).  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

they are gonna launch a telescope that can detect earth sized planets in a few years! 2004 i think it was.

hubble is coming down in 2004, after another 3 servicing missions which will replace 3 of the current instuments.

The next mission will take place early in 2002 and will replace the solar panels with more efficient, rigid ones plus get the infra-red system working again (it busted after 2 years because the solid nitrogen coolant evaporated), and replace the current hi-definition cameras with an upgrade.

at least thats what i remember.

Its a pity we can't launch a network of hubble-type sattelites and interpolate their input to get a crystal-clear image- plus it would help triangulate distances and such.

... Lol, that modem speed, you knbow you can change it? right clicon your internet access icon, in properties choose the set up of your modem, and voila! That's the maximum allowed speed btw, an, of course, a 56k won't go faster than 56k, even if you choose 115 200

Wow... we'll finally be searching for planets. We've come a long way, huh?

Not far enough. Mankind puts far to little money into space exploration, more concerned with fighting wars...
