Title: Put B5 in a mission, but it moves?
Post by: compmanio36 on October 03, 2005, 04:32:14 pm
I have put Babylon 5 in a mission I created using FRED, but once the enemy jumps from Hyperspace, Babylon 5 actually turns towards the enemy, instead of staying broadside!  Is there any way of making sure this doesn't happen?  I have looked and disabled everything I can think of, but it still does it.

Did you give B5 any order to attack the ship?

It may have an engine subsystem.  Set the hull of that or those subsystems to 0.  This will allow you to set B5 to attack anyship without causing it to move.  Note, B5 does have engines, but they were primarily used to keep the ship stable within orbit.

Just give the station stand still orders. Hehe. That crazy Sheridan :)

Took out the attack order and it doesn't move, but then again the ship sitting right next to it wails on it without B5 doing a thing to protect itself.  Will see if there is a engine subsystem.

And yes, I remember, in the pilot episode of B5, there were thrusters.  I thought they were to fix the rotation that got thrown off?

You know I don't remember putting any engine subsystems on it. With regards to it not fighting back. Well, did you tell it to "Play dead" rather than "Stand still"? Is the enemy ship close enough to be hit by the interceptors? You know those interceptors are just for shooting down bombs and fighters anyway. They won't be much use against a capship.

Nope, I didn't give it any orders at all.  I found no stand still in the list.  And the attacking ship (Minbari Sharlan) was as close as it would get (it stopped).

As I recall, Babylon 5 had a defense grid that also had rail guns and PPG style turrets, not just interceptors.  They helped take down a Centauri capship with them.  Of course I believe their defense grid had just been upgraded before that episode, so I guess it depends on what time you pulled the model from :)

It's there I just checked. It's an initial order. If it doesn't appear for you then you're installation of TBP has been modified in some way.

Unfortunately that's no guarantee it's close enough for B5 to shoot back. Not that season 1 pre-upgrade Babylon 5 would make a dent on a Sharlin anyway.

Season 1 mate :). Feel free to change some of the turret weapon assignments in FRED though. In order to give the station some more firepower. Still, B5 vs a Sharlin? Not working for me.

Fact: Any ship given orders to attack will turn to face its enemy. B5, Arcadia, GOD, whatever. Engines or not.

Fact: If a vessel (other than cargo, fighter. bomber) has no orders it will not move or turn, but will target and fire on any hostile that is within range.

Opinion: S1 B5 defence grid looks cool, sounds cool and is good versus fighters. But is useless against anything stronger than Olympus.

Perhaps they could have been used for that reason as well, but from what I understand, a big peice of debree hit B5 and caused the station to lose it's orbit, thrus risking the station from crash landing into the planet it orbited.

FYI, when I said there were engines on it, I did not mean in the POF model.  I was regarding the actual B5 Station itself from the episodes.  Sorry for the confusion.

It wasn't debris. A minbari blew himself up, blew a hole in the side of the station and the depressurisation of that part of the hull basically acted like a big thruster.

They had to use the thusters to put the station back in place.

Uhoh.......now look what I started :)

But, I got the station to stop moving, and since the station isn't going to do much damage to the minbari ship anyways........

Thanks for all the help

Sounds like the episode with the news crew towards the end of s2, but B5 didn't take any serious damage.

The only episode were Narn and Centauri capships fight near B5 is in Fall of Night. In And Now For A Word it's basically transports fighting and no serious damage is done to B5 let alone anything that could knock it out of orbit.

In fact IIRC the thrusters on B5 are only ever used in the pilot.

No it doesn't... If you mean the incident where couple of small Narn and Centauri ships began to duke it out and Starfuries went and disabled them...

I remember the event with B5 "thrurstering" in orbit. But I dont' remeber wich episode. But I know that it wasn't seasons 1 or 2, 'cos I have those on DVD. It must have been either in the pilot or during season 3...

Not season 3. Must be the pilot
