I just built a computer and it's set up and what not, I've set the BIOS to read from CD-Rom first. I put in the Windows XP in the Drive and it boots from the disc, as it should. Then it "inspects the computer hardware configuration...". now, how long should that take, generally speaking?

on my computer it doesn't take longer then 15 seconds. It shouldn't take minutes maby a max of 30secs or so.

Less than a minute on every piece of hardware I've ever run Windows XP setup on. That ranges from a Pentium III 400 to a AMD 2700+.
