LONDON (AFP) - US
President George W. Bush allegedly said God told him to invade
Iraq and
Afghanistan, a new BBC documentary will reveal, according to details.

Read through it, it's funny and scary at the same time :nervous:...not only that, but since when was the Christian God so ineloquent? The way Bush describes him, it sounds like he was talking like an uneducated Texan...hmm...

Does this bother anyone else?

Not that I have anything against Christians being in gov't positions, but when someone starts saying they're on a mission from God, and he's actually spoken to them...that bothers me.

I think he was speaking figuratively, he meant that it was his faith or something guiding him, a gut feeling, I hear christians use that phrase all the time. not that invadeing a country on a gut feeling is a lot better.

As much as i don't give a ****, i'd like to examine a few sentences:

Bush made the claim when he met Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas and then foreign minister Nabil Shaath in June 2003,

followed by:

The US leader also told them he had been ordered by God to create a Palestinian state, the ministers said.

I like how God can be used for both the popular moves and the unpopular moves.

Something about "too many saviours on my cross" perhaps?

Of course, this is all ridiculous.  God didn't tell Bush to invade Iraq.

His dad did.

Well you do know what they say about the trinity:
The Father (George Herbert Walker Bush)
The Son (George Walker Bush)
The Holy Spirit (Ronald Reagan)

he actaully directly made a statement to this effect that is on record and attributed to him - in a speech to amish during the last campaign. (a statement to the effect that god talks to him)

I have no problem with people of any religion holding office so long as they don't start using their religion to legislate and start saying "$DEITY told me to do it!"

Of course the very fact that he was campaigning to the Amish, who specifically state that they don't vote or interfere in 'worldly affairs' says something... :p

Then again, you never knnow..maby God DID tell him to that :sarcasm:

But then again, if you think about it - if Jesus were to come today and talk the same stuff all over he would end up in a mental institution or would be killed again :(

Most likely he'd just be viewed as a "damn, liberal hippy preaching pacifism, love, and non-violence." Put on the FBI watchlist, and maybe a FOX News interview to discredit him in the eyes of good god-fearing Americans.
