Title: This bloke over at Gamewarden...
Post by: Black Wolf on October 09, 2005, 08:10:50 pm
Might want to look in here (http://www.game-warden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1146) Specifically here (http://www.game-warden.com/forum/showpost.php?p=14695&postcount=12).

Keep in mind, it looks like it's all conducive to Omni having some BSG stuff ready within ten or so days, and if you guys get anything for him, it'd also be put under the same time limits, but if everything goes well, could be quite... nice.

yes,

the scp and bsg project has a big oppertunity to get publicity here; we should utilize it to the best of our abilities.

I don't really get why the BSG project isn't hosted here. It's shown massive improvment since it started, and quality. Yeah, place is overcrowded but for something like that one more forum could be added tbh :p

It wasn't really up to the Admin here though, at the time the FS2 community was actually using up more of GS's storage space than almost every other forum out there, so steps had to be taken to keep them happy.

well, from what the bloke said, either a demo, or at least .vp files and an installer will be needed for the installation itself.

Is anyone willing to compile a .vp and host it up for the fellow? Especially with all the latest stuff - then perhaps, we can play through one of the campaigns. Maybe transcend? I imagine that would grab the greatest amout of attention, since it uses a significant number of new features. Or at the very least, the main FS2 campaign. :/

I can handle uploading files to warpcore; I don't think Inquisitor will/would have any rejections to it, so long as it's not totally unreasonable.

I'd also be willing to devote a day or so to answer questions or whatnot about getting things set up...I'll make a post in the other thread.

Well, remember what I said. If any 2d stuff that needs to be done, I'll gladly help you.

Hmm.. I still haven't found a decent lwo Galactica mesh, but I have a very nice Viper Mk II. I could try and render a nice publicity shot for you.

I can host everything fine, my hosting billing cycle rolled over so I got 450 gigs of bandwidth ready to go. As far as a master SCP VP, as soon as i fix my problem ( http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,35691.0.html ) I will be able to compile a VP.

BSG is hosted at GW because one of the admins got to omni about hosting before HLP admins did.....lol

bah
We gave them hosting because no one else really wanted to.
The staff saw the potential for this sort of MOD/TC and wanted to help get it going so we jumped at the oppertunity to host them

I, for the record, have no trouble supporting the BSG mod with a little disk and bandwidth :)

yea so all u bungholes saying HLP didnt "pursue" or allow us hosting, is totally false.... actually omni asked me to host it on my website, which was totally originally planned, then papa came to us and was like yo, were growin, and we need content, give u what u need to handle ur buisness, so we were sold.

HLP bigs heavily supports us anyway so if we was here, or at GW or at nexus studios... doesnt matter, the community here, is very BIG, so HLP community is also GW's community is also warp storms (lol) community... is also...

ok im now a :doubt: + :wtf:  = :shaking:

I was referring to WM's suggestion that I wouldn't mind using our Warpcore space.

I have NO idea what you are on about, or why you called me a bunghole.

Yep. I read about that on Game Warden and I'm spitting mad about it.

Well, to paraphrase what I said in the thread there...bschott has gone against his word, the very basis of the reason that he was allowed to present the Alpha in the first place. He's betrayed the trust of the team and everyone who's worked on the mod.

The result of that, is that now the team has to take precautions. We want a good, strong release. That's not going to happen if people start trying to siphon media off to use with the leaked Alpha, so we have to be careful about where it's stored and who has access to it. We don't want to be shut down by whoever holds the Battlestar Galactica copyright before we get that good, strong release. But it's too late to do anything about that.

Bschott felt like he had an opportunity, and he was right. Hopefully the cost of his moment of glory only results in a few delays, and not the mod getting a cease-and-desist notice.

Does Universal Studios have a history of shuting down mods? I know MGM does.
Title: Re: This bloke over at Gamewarden...
Post by: northtwilight on November 14, 2005, 10:54:10 am
That may not be the issue. There seems to be a well-known precedent that if you don't defend your copyright you lose it.

Ergo, Universal may not have a choice than to play the heavy.

BSchott's actions -- on a board owned by Sci-Fi and by extension Universal -- were unthinkingly stupid. If anyone from the series production team happens across, the potential for strangling this mod at birth a la Adama choking Baltar's baby in Valley of Darkness becomes much greater.

I agree but that said WB haven't had anything to say about TBP or any other B5 mod as they seem to realise that it's free advertising for them rather than a threat.

The corps only generally worry if someone is making money from IP or trying to pass themselves off as official. MGM closed mods mainly because they knew their own in-house game was likely to be **** and thus wouldn't sell if a mod was better.

From what I've heard, generally the series production team aren't the ones worried about copyright infringement to such extremes. I've heard stories where the production team thought a website was awesome, chatted with the admin regularly, and then MGM sent him a cease-and-desist letter and the FBI seized his computer equipment. (He had screencaps and preview vids on the site.)

To quote Bubbles, 'Oh my ****', there's a Trailer Park Boys mod ?!? For Freespace 2 ?!

:)

Just kidding ... I needed a moment of levity there...

Something like a year or two back, more specifically it was MGM vs SG1Archive.com over Stargate.

God, I feel sorry for you guys.  This type of behavior is just sickening.  You trust this guy to do some promotion for your awesome mod, and he turns around and stabs you in the back.  That's flat-out wrong. I hope you guys don't take away any lasting discouragement from this; from the screenshots I've seen, you've pulled off things with the FS2 engine that :v: couldn't have imagined in their wildest dreams.  It's literally starting to look like FMV-quality.  I've never seen any of the BSG series, but I'm planning to in the future, and if the mod has been finished at that time, I'll be all over it. :)
